As you can see by the title of this article, this is a Public Service Announcement. I want to spread awareness because this is currently happening to me, and I am positive that I am not the only one going through this.

As you all know, there is a complete difference between being sad and being depressed. When you are sad, you can get over it with the help of ice cream or a hug, or something simple, whereas depression is a medical condition. It is long term and can need treatment based on severity.

My situation as of now is that I am really depressed. It's not so bad because I can still take on daily tasks and live my life, but at the end of the day I am broken emotionally. I get nauseous and weak and end up with chills and want to talk to someone but I can't because I have no one. Literally, the only people I talk to are my mom, my brother, my sister, and my boyfriend on a daily basis. I don't talk to anyone outside of my family or my boyfriend, so when I need to vent, there's not really many options to go to. Especially in serious situations because there's just those family members that you can't go to in certain situations because they don't give you good enough reactions. You know they're always there for you and they love you, but it's just certain things you can't talk to them about.

Well that's me. Not only is that the case with my family, but that's also the case with my boyfriend. I go through so much, but I'm so bad at expressing my emotions, so I'll say things like "babe, I'm sad." I say it so often because I'm depressed, not sad, but I guess he doesn't know that, so he says "you're always sad." He basically doesn't care. I've told him that I was depressed recently and he didn't really care too much. It's not that he didn't care, but he didn't show sympathy for me like a boyfriend should. There was no arm around me, long hug, kisses, "talk to me's" none of that.

Which brings me to the point of this article. . .

Depression is such an overly used word. People use that word to mean "sad" and it's pathetic. People actually feel as though they don't really have to care when people come to them and say that they are depressed. If you've ever actually had depression, you know how hard it is to talk to someone and admit that you are depressed because you are admitting that you are not strong enough to handle whatever it was that made you feel that way to begin with. It's hard.

So I'm here to say that if someone is coming to you to tell you that they are depressed, don't take it for granted. They could just mean they are sad, sure, but to be on the safe side, take it seriously. There's no harm in doing so, but there could be if you don't.
