I did a lot of research on different animals and their symbolism as part of my AS Level Art project last year entitled 'People and Animals' and I thought it would be fun to share some of the stuff I learned. Here is Part 3: Wolves. Scroll to the end to get the links to the other parts!
Wolves

- In Finnish beliefs, wolves are feared and hated

- Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome, were raised by the Capitoline Wolf

- In Zoroastrian beliefs, wolves are a creation of darkness and are among the most cruel of animals

- In Native American cultures, wolves are considered a medicine associated with strength, loyalty, and successful hunting

- In Indo-European mythology, the warrior class would transform into wolves upon their initiation

- The Ancient Greeks associated wolves with the sun god Apollo

- Turks, Mongols and Ainu believed that wolves were the ancestors of their people

- In Norse mythology, the Fenrir is a wolf bound by the god, but will grow too large for the bounds and eat Odin. Fenrir will grow so large that his upper jaw touches the sky and his lower jaw the earth when he gapes
