Skin care. Many of us do these mistakes that might be damaging to our skin. Read this article for tips on how to take better care of your skin!

Note: I am not (yet) a professional (I study to become a beautician) and these are tips I have heard and/or found myself to be useful.

1. Not knowing your skin type

Not knowing your skin type leads to using products that are not useful to your skin, or might damage your skin barrier. The skin types are normal skin, dry skin, oily skin, sensitive skin and combination skin.
You can determine your skin type by taking a skin type test (google), by going to a facial in which an esthetician determines your skin type, or learning about the features of different skin types. Then you should learn about your own skin type and use products developed for purposes of that skin type.

2. Overly exfoliating

You might already know about this, but overly exofoliating can lead to damaging your skin, reducing the skin's own moisture balance and over all too much exfoliating is a no-no.
Don't get me wrong, exfoliating is needed for getting rid of the dead skin cells and it will even your skin making it look smooth, but you should find the perfect balance. The recommended amount of exfoliating is usually 1-2 times per week. You should especially avoid doing this mistake if you have dry or sensitive skin. If you are using one of those cleansers every day which also work as a exfoliator, think about whether or not it's actually good for you.

3. Not wearing sun screen

Did you know you should use sun screen all year round, even when it's cloudy or even if you're just spending time inside watching Netlix? '
The reason for this is because your skin is still being exposed to daylight, even if it's just coming to you from the windows. Not wearing sun screen can cause premature aging of the skin, and of course, lead to skin cancer.
You can find moisturisers which have sun screen built in them.

4. Not following the basic skin care routine

The basic every day skin care routine consists of cleanser, toner, eye cream and moisturiser, picked for your skin type.
You can also a buy a serum or an oil to wear under your moisturiser at nights, and you should exfoliate and use masks weekly.

5. List of some other harmful things for your skin

  • Not changing your pillow case weekly (can cause break outs)
  • Sleeping with your makeup on (honey no)
  • Not washing your make up brushes
  • Touching your face and squeezing blemishes
  • Not educating yourself on the active ingredients on the products you're using
  • Not drinking enough water
