First of all: oily skin is not dirty skin, oily skin is not problem skin! (SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK)

As a person who's had oily skin their whole life, I'm excited to say that over the last couple of weeks, I've began to embrace my oily skin. There's so many reasons why oily skin actually is great. But unfortunately, oily skin is considered unhealthy and is something that people always try to avoid. Any time you search "oily skin" on We Heart It or on Google, mostly what shows up is articles and posts about how to get rid of oily skin. Of course there are advantages and disadvantages to every skin type but with oily skin, people only focus on the disadvantages. This kind of disappointed me and so I wanted to write an article on why you should also embrace your skin and start loving it.
On the science side, oily skin actually is healthier than drier skin. Oily skin is more moisturized than dry skin and this moisture from oil thus actually slows down the aging process as well as reduces the appearance of fine lines. It's also more protected from environmental factors like sun damage and pollution and dirt.
Oily skin isn't something that you should be trying to get rid of. You should strive to manage it well. You shouldn't be constantly and excessively washing your face to get rid of the oil because this will strip your skin of nutrients. But at the same time you shouldn't skip a wash as the buildup of oil and product could clog your pores which could lead to breakouts. You shouldn't avoid moisturizer thinking that your skin doesn't need it. All skin types need some kind of moisturizer.
On the plus side, if you have oily skin, your skin will always look like you're wearing highlighter ;)

There are tons of celebrities that also have oily skin but still look great, like Khloe Kardashian, Miley Cyrus, Cara Delevingne and Gigi Hadid.

At the end of it all, all skin is beautiful. Acne, oily skin, wrinkles. All of it is beautiful.
Thanks for reading! I hope this inspired you to change how you feel about oily skin.
