It can be really scary to feel alone in who you are or to have people put false ideas in your head about who you should or shouldn't be. This is a list of people that inspire me in knowing that there are people out there embracing who they are and that one day I could do that too. Enjoy!

Ellen Degeneres (Talk Show Host/ Environmentalist/ Dancer/ Dory)

A legend - Ellen came out in not such a great time to come out (1997 on the Oprah Winfrey show) and ever since has been an icon in the LGBTQ community while also being funny, generous, the voice of Dory (like oh my God?!) and caring very deeply for animal species that are endangered or are on the brink of extinction.

Troye Sivan (Artist/Youtuber)

Troye Sivan was one of the first people of representation I had, I started watching his videos a while ago and that followed me into his amazing music. He was the first openly gay artist I knew of and he continues to amaze me with the quality of his music!

Kesha (musician/empowering)

Whether you know Kesha from when she was Ke$ha, making songs like Tik Tok or if you're a newer fan, Kesha has become an inspiration to many as she struggled with deep manipulation and survived rape. She is a voice for many not only with her past struggles but with her even stronger comeback and fresher sound - motivating women, abuse survivors and the LGBTQ community.

Sam Smith (musician)

Sam Smith started out with Latch by Disclosure (an amazing song might I add), eventually starting a buzz of his own with songs like Stay With Me and Lay Me Down. And though, at first coming out as gay, Smith has since then said to feel "as much as a man as I do a woman" and is still coming on strong in the music business. Being one of the very few representations for non-binary people and an amazing inspiration to the LGBTQ community as a whole.

Kehlani (musician)

Kehlani has had a few albums but her following has grown significantly since the release of "Sweet Sexy Savage", recently releasing Honey, and becoming more open about her sexuality. She has released other amazing songs such as Distraction, CRZY and others that have drawn me to her hypnotizing voice and music.

Miles McKenna (Youtuber/ Icon)

Miles McKenna saved my life. He made me truly see how other people struggle to label themselves and figure out who they are and has helped me understand how everything can be scary, especially when it comes to figuring out who you are but laughing and living through is the best way to do it. He's funny so go and follow, love, support and cherish him! He talks a lot about his life struggles, labeling and such.

Hayley Kiyoko (musician/ lesbian jesus / crazy-funny)

You may remember this icon from Lemonade Mouth or with her gayer, more notorious single "Girls Like Girls", but Hayley has become a more influential part in the community as she writes her songs about her (gay) relationships with women. Though, she has been met with controversy for this, she replies saying that she hopes that these topics will be met with less controversy in the future.

Note: I only added people that have personally inspired me and that I was sure were part of the community.
