Disclaimer: all the mcu films are good!, this article is just based on my own opinions, it's all fun my guy.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is an shared universe that is centered on a series of superhero films, based on characters that appear in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The franchise has expanded to include short films and television series. The shared universe was established by crossing over common plot elements, settings, cast, and characters.

With second Avengers: Infinity War trailer dropping, we are now approaching the ninetieth movie into the marvel cinematic universe and I wanted to stop and rank my top 5 mcu films before infinity war rolls around into theaters worldwide April 27, 2018.

5. Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

Director(s): Taika Waititi
Screen Play: Eric Pearson, Craig Kyle, Christopher Yost
Box Office: 854M
Rotten Tomatoes score: 92%

Thor is imprisoned on the planet Sakaar, and must team up with Loki, Hulk and Valkyire, as they race against time to return back to Asgard and stop the impending Ragnarok, the destruction of his home, which is at the hands of the powerful and ruthless villain Hela.

Thor: Rangarok by far is easily the best film from its trilogy, the direction to make this into a comedy with a hint of 80's synthetic pop music added into the soundtrack and the use of these vibrant shades of colour to emphasize the fun, comedy part of the films makes it just a fun movie to enjoy.
At times the comedy did overshadow the very little of the scenes we did have that were serious, but other than that Thor: Ragnarok breaks into my top 5 with its light-hearted tone and the new found direction that was brought to the Thor franchise .

4. Black Panther (2018)

Director(s): Ryan Coogler
Screen Play: Ryan Coogler, Joe Robert Cole
Box Office: 1.2B*
Rotten Tomatoes score: 97%

T'Challa, returns home as the king of Wakanda, rises to the throne in the isolated, technologically advanced African nation, but his sovereignty is challenged by a vengeful outsider named Killmonger, who was a childhood victim of king T'Chaka's mistake.

Black Panther has the best world building than any other marvel movie made, they build up the arcs of the characters right from the beginning so that we know what each character values and why. Black Panther also has the best villain of the entire mcu, who has depth and an agenda that makes him the hero of his own story.

Although some of the action scenes did fall flat, the overall story telling, and introduction of a character and a world that we knew would go on to leave a big impact on the mcu, was done impeccably.

3. Captain America: Civil War (2016)

Director(s): Joe Russo, Anthony Russo
Screen Play: Christopher Markus, Stephan McFeely
Box Office: 1.1B
Rotten Tomatoes score: 91%

Captain America: Civil War, disagreement over international oversight of the Avengers fractures them into opposing factions—one led by Steve Rogers and the other by Tony Stark.

The Captain America trilogy is the only mcu trilogy that keeps getting better with every movie, in terms of production, story line, character arcs, action sequences, etc.
Captain America: Civil War at the time its release (and possibly still today, it's up for debate) is the best comic book film ever to be made on the big screen. Dealing with real life tension built up from previous mcu films, it gives us authentic conflict between steve rogers and tony stark where the issue of the movie isn't about whose right and whose wrong, but why everyone chose the side they did.

2. The Avengers (2012)

Director(s): Joss Whedon
Screen Play: Zak Penn, Joss Whedon
Box Office: 1.5B
Rotten Tomatoes score: 92%

Nick Fury recruits Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk, and Thor to form a group, later joined by Black Widow and Hawkeye, who must come together and learn to fight as a team to stop Loki from and his alien army from enslaving humanity.

The Avengers movie is the one which launched the marvel cinematic universe up into it's legendary position, with it being the most anticipated superhero film of the decade (infinity war might steal that title soon) definitely lived up to the hype and delivered a solid story that didn't neglect the building up character arcs for the sake of adding in more characters.

All in all, The first Avengers movie revolutionized superhero films by bringing all these characters we've gotten to know from previous mcu films, and making it feel like the avengers was the reward to watching all these films and building this interconnected cinematic universe. This film will be the one people will still watch in 10, 20, 30 years down the line and still remember how it felt to see all these heroes band together on screen for the first time.

1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

Captain America, Black Widow, and Falcon team up to uncover a conspiracy within S.H.I.E.L.D, while facing an new threat from history: mysterious assassin known as the Winter Soldier.

It's an unwritten rule by now that Captain America: The Winter Solider is one of the best crafted superhero films of all time. Everything about this movie was done exactly right, from grounding steve rogers' character to introducing new characters without making it seem to overstuffed and the direction to go in a political thriller genre instead of the typical superhero movie arc about a bad guy wanting to take over for evil, this movie gives so much depth and layers that invoke so much stake involved in this movie that in turn shake up the entire mcu collaterally, which makes Captain America: The Winter Soldier the best marvel cinematic universe film to date.

Honorable mentions:

Iron Man (2008)
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

*At the time of publishing this article, Black Panther is still currently playing in theaters.
