There is something about the '80s that produces amazing movies and I decided to list some of my favorites here.
The Shining (1980):
Psychological Thriller-
Jack Torrence and his family look after the isolated Overlook Hotel but soon discover the hotel's dark secrets as Jack unravels into a homicidal maniac
E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
Fantasy- An alien is stranded on earth and befriends a young boy named Eliiott and his siblings; they must help E.T. return home while avoiding the government
The Outsiders (1983):
Crime/Drama- After a member of the Greasers gang kills a member of the Socials gang,the boys are forced to go into hiding
Gremlins (1984):
Fantasy/horror- A man purchases a creature at a store in Chinatown with the warning to never expose it to bright light, water, or feed it after midnight. All of this happens and sends a gang of gremlins to attack the town
Ghostbusters (1984):
Fantasy- A team of scientists lose their jobs so they battle the supernatural for money; however, a gateway to another dimension releases evil upon the city
Back To The Future (1985):
Science Fiction- Marty McFly is sent back to the '50s when an experiment by his scientist friend goes wrong; Marty must make sure his parents fall in love or he will never exist
The Breakfast Club (1985):
Drama- Five students (the rebel, the princess, the outcast, the brain, and the jock) are sent to Saturday detention and when they leave, school will never be the same
The Goonies (1985):
Action- Two brothers go on a treasure hunt with their friends in attempt to find money to save their house
Stand By Me (1986):
Drama- Four boys go on an adventure to see a dead body and on the way, learn more about one another
Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986):
Drama- Ferris Bueller is skilled at skipping school and makes one last duck-out before graduation with his principal following close behind
Adventures In Babysitting (1987):
Thriller- Chris Parker spends her night babysitting the Anderson kids but instead of a quiet night in, they go to the city and deal with car thieves, blues musicians, and more
Dirty Dancing (1987):
Romance- Johnny enlists good girl Baby as his dance partner and the two are determined to stay together despite Baby's father's dissapproval
The Princess Bride (1987):
Fantasy/Romance- A fairy tale adventure about a farm boy that finds his princess after a long separation and they battle the evils of Florin
Heathers (1988):
Drama- Veronica and her new boyfriend accidentally kill the school clique leader and try to make it look like a suicide
Dead Poets Society (1989):
Drama- A new English teacher at an all-boys preparatory school helps the students pursue their dreams and seize the day
