Hello, lovely readers! Today, I will be providing a range of tips on how to reduce stress concerning test-taking. As students, tests are an important part of our scholastic journey; however, they should not be something that plague us with constant anxiety. Let's get started!

1. Develop Good Study Habits

An obvious but key component of calmer test-taking is good preparation methods. You will feel much less stressed if you study well. Here are some simple tips:

  • Write Study Notes - Compile and condense the information from each topic that will be assessed on the test. This gives you a set of notes to refer to regularly and reinforces the information.
  • Make Flash Cards - Write down vocabulary or key concepts on index cards and use them to test yourself.
  • Practice - Whether you will be taking a math test or an in-class essay, do a few practice questions. This will make you feel much more sure about the topic and prepared for the test.

If you need additional information, I have a full article on study tips:

2. Time Management and Organisation

Ensure that you study at least three to four days in advance in order to feel prepared and calm about the upcoming test.

Keep a planner and stick to your schedule. Work in blocks of time and focus on one task at a time. Tick off the topics you have studied for in order to stay on track. Take breaks regularly to stay refreshed and rejuvenated; instead of simply scrolling through your phone, try decluttering your desk, taking a breath of fresh air, or talking to a family member. I believe in you!

3. Exude Confidence and Positivity

Do not wallow in your anxiety, as it will not actually aid you in the test. Spend time with loving, supportive friends that will lift your mood and mitigate your stress! Try to not constantly vent to others about how nervous you are; it will only make others and yourself more anxious.

Believe in yourself and reinforce your confidence with positive affirmations!

4. Sleep Well

This is a simple tip, but sleep truly aids test anxiety. Ensure that you are relaxing and resting in bed by 10:00. It will make your mind sharper and reduce anxiety.

On the test day and during study sessions, stay comfortable. Wear clean, soft clothes, keep your space tidy, spritz yourself with a subtle scent, brew some warm tea, and stay cosy.
