Hello there!

If you saw my 18 goals for 2018 article, you would remember that one of them was to clear my skin. Luckily since the beginning of the year I've been doing so much better! So I wanted to share with you some little habits I started to incorporate (and also some other things that I already did).

So let's get started!

Wash your face twice a day

Wash your face when you wake up and before going to bed. Water and soap will do, but you can get fancy with products if you find some that work for your skin!

  • Use tepid water, as cold water doesn't open up your pores and hot water dries out your skin
  • If you use any products, make sure to wash it all off to avoid any leftover
  • Be gentle, avoid harsh scrubs and washclothes (as they can cause irritation)
  • Don't use your hand towel as your face towel
  • Pat your skin dry, don't rub

Avoid touching your face

You pick up bacteria from every surface you touch and all that goes to your face if you touch it!

  • Always carry with you hands sanitizer

Change your pillowcase

Even if you wash your face perfectly every night, your pillowcases carry sweat from your hair and hands. But also, build up the products you use on your face and/or hair.

  • Change your pillowcases at least once a week (I would recommend changing it once every two days)
  • Sleep with your hair in a ponytail to keep it out of your face

Clean your phone

Your phone picks up lots of dirt and bacteria, from your hands, your bag and pretty much every place it was left on. It all then transfers to your face.

  • Start cleaning your screen with an anti-bacterial wipe
  • Use speaker phone or your headphones as much as possible

Choose your make up wisely

The best thing you can do is avoid wearing make up in general, as your skin will be able to breath during the day and also won't acumulate any product. However, if you want to wear make up, only go for products for oily skin.

  • Layer your make up lightly to avoid applying more than you need
  • If you just took a hot shower, wait about 10 to 15 minutes before applying your make up as hot water will open your pores, making them instantly absorb more of the make up, clogging your pores
  • Wash your make up brushes regularly
  • Avoid make up sponges, or use disposable ones and discard them after each use (they accumulate bacteria like crazy)
  • Carry oil-absorbing sheets in your bag to blot away any shine during the day while you are not at home
  • Try to incorporate sunscreen into your make up routine, to protect your skin for the sun

Take care of your overall health

  • Get 6-8 hours of sleep every night
  • Drink lots of water
  • Try to reduce your dairy and greasy food intake
  • Avoid acohol
  • Being stressed can increase the production of oil of your body so, incorporating exercise into your daily routine is a good way to combat stress and keep your skin clear (wash your face before and after every work out)

Be consistent

If you want great skin, care for it each day. You can't expect to see a big change overnight, it is a process and it takes work and time.
