These lip-plumping recipes contain either spices or essential oils that irritate your lips and cause temporary swelling. Don't use them if your lips are chapped or cracked since the ingredients can sting your exposed skin. Wash your fingers immediately after applying the lip plumper to avoid getting it in your eyes, and clearly label the jar you store the mixture in so you don't mistake it for plain petroleum jelly, which is one of the ingredients you will use.

Salt and Cinnamon Recipe
Before going to bed, thoroughly mix a half teaspoon of cinnamon and a half teaspoon of salt with 1 generous tablespoon of petroleum jelly. Put some of the mixture on your finger and rub it across your lips until they feel tingly and smooth. Wipe the petroleum jelly off after five minutes. Dip a lipstick brush into fresh beet root juice or red food coloring and lightly paint your lips. In the morning, apply a light coating of fresh petroleum jelly. The application will last for a few days.

Essential Oils Recipe
Put a teaspoon of petroleum jelly in an empty makeup jar. Add several drops each of menthol, wintergreen and cinnamon essential oil and blend them together. Rub a layer of the petroleum jelly over your lips. Your mouth with slightly swell and turn redder.

Beeswax Recipe
Put one teaspoon of bee's wax and two teaspoons of petroleum jelly in a small jar. Add a few drops each of cinnamon, wintergreen and menthol essential oil and mix the ingredients together. Apply the balm as needed and keep it stored in the refrigerator.

Cinnamon and Cayenne Pepper Recipe
Put three tablespoons of petroleum jelly in a small jar. Add one-half teaspoon of cinnamon and one-half teaspoon of cayenne pepper and thoroughly mix them together. Apply a layer of lip balm to your lips, and then apply a layer of the petroleum jelly mixture with a cotton swab. Women who are allergic to cayenne pepper shouldn't use this recipe to avoid a bad reaction.

Apply with a cotton swab to lips. Never apply to sunburned, dry or cracked lips. Start in small doses with the equal parts of pepper and powder and try it. If there is no burn sensation then it is not strong enough.
