Hey Babes,

All my favorite bands happen to be led by women. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against boys (I LOVE boys!) but I think girls have been making the most incredible music for like, ever. Plus, any girl who teaches herself to play guitar, writes her own songs, puts a band together, and performs on stage, is a badass bitch, and she has my total and complete respect and admiration. Let’s support girls who rock!

Here are my favorite bands right now:

PINS
PINS is probably my favorite band. They are 5 girls from Manchester UK. The lead singer and songwriter is Faith Holgate. She studied to be a fashion photographer before starting PINS. Their style is dark, and retro, and kind of menacing.

Pale Honey
A guitar and drums duo from Sweden. Imagine being feminine and sensitive, but also grungey and moody all at the same time. Their song, The Real Thing, is fucking amazing.

Deap Vally
Another guitar and drums duo, this one from the US. I’m not usually a fan of heavy rock, but their music is overwhelmingly outstanding. Guitarist Lindsey Troy plays outrageous riffs on guitar that melt your face off, and she is a completely ferocious rock singer.

The Darts
This band of 5 girls play really loud, raw, rock and roll. They might all wear black slip dresses and mules, or black vinyl jumpsuits and spike heeled boots; they look sexy as hell. The lead singer plays electric organ, and sometimes she straddles it, or lays on the floor and pulls it down on top of her, which is pretty hot!

Bully
Alicia Bognanno earned a degree in audio engineering in Nashville, eventually working as an audio engineer. She recorded demos and put a band together to perform her own songs. Her songs are very personal, and she has a great rock and roll voice, and plays guitar.

Warpaint
These four women from Los Angeles play innovative indie rock. Three of the girls trade off playing bass or guitar. They are extremely creative and are starting solo projects outside the band. Their music is kind of unique and experimental, but also easy to dance to and very catchy.

Wolf Alice
Led by Ellie Rowsell, this British band plays interesting alternative rock that can be beautiful and uplifting, or noisey and angry.

Tropic of Cancer
TOP is basically the solo project of Camella Lobo, often assisted by Taylor Burch. The sound of Tropic of Cancer is repetitive, monotonous, and can feel extremely depressing. Obviously, this is not for everyone’s taste! However, their music is also very beautiful, and ultra romantic, in the darkest sense.
