If your teenage girl, like me, you probably enjoy films that you can relate to and that strike a chord with you personally. I find that especially indie films have a way of connecting with teen audiences the best, but unfortunately they don't get as popular as mainstream films. So here are 9 Indie Films For Teens:

1. The Edge of Seventeen

(The Edge of Seventeen 2016)

This movie is about an awkward seventeen-year-old girl who goes through a rough patch in life when her brother starts dating her best friend and everything falls apart. It's honestly one of my favorite movies and it's hilarious, you have to check it out!

2. The Way Way Back

(The Way Way Back 2013)

This honestly my favorite movie. It's about a boy named Duncan who has to spend the summer with his verbally abusive step-dad and his submissive mother who doesn't stick up for him. Duncan finds an escape by getting a job at the waterpark and making friends who actually care about him. It's funny and heartwarming, one of the best coming-of-age films I know!

3. The Art of Getting By

(The Art of Getting By 2011)

This film is a cute love story. It's about an artsy high school senior named George who is dissatisfied with life and would rather paint and draw. He then falls in love with a girl named Sally but an older artist named Dustin makes things complicated. Great film! Definitely worth a watch!

4. The Perks of Being a Wallflower

I'm pretty sure everyone has seen this movie, do I even need to give it a description? This movie will make you cry, laugh, and just tear your soul apart. It is so emotional and beautiful. If you haven't seen it, you must.

5. The Diary of a Teenage Girl

(The Diary of Teenage Girl 2015)

This one isn't as relatable as the rest, but it does talk about the ups and downs of a fifteen-year-old girl discovering her sexuality. It's set in the 70's, and she has an affair with her mothers' boyfriend, yikes. It's got some cool psychedelic aspects to it, it's definitely worth a watch. This is for older teenagers.

6. Lady Bird

I'm pretty sure you all know about this film because of Timotee Chalamet haha. But this movie is about a normal teenage girl in the early 2000's who is discovering herself. It's honestly such a relatable movie!

7. Laggies

(Laggies 2014)

Alright, this one is a bit different from the rest. This is about a 28-year-old woman who goes to her 10-year-high school reunion and realizes much of her life hasn't changed. And then her boyfriend proposed and she freaks out. So then she runs away and meets a group of teenagers and hangs out with while trying to find herself. This is honestly an amazing movie, one of my favorites.

8. The Kings of Summer

(The Kings of Summer 2013)

I think this is 100% a movie we can all relate to. It's about a group of boys who run away from home because of how annoying their parents are. They build a house in the woods and try to live on there own, under there own rules. It's such a cute and relatable movie!

9. Prom

You're a real Disney MVP if you remember this film. This counts as an indie film since it didn't get much buzz. This is about a group of teens last moments in high school as prom season rolls around. A cute film and definitely will strike a chord with my high school seniors.
