Hello everyone!! I hope you are having a splendid day! Earlier in the year, I began a project called #GoldenInsecurities, and today’s article will be a few simple tips to overcoming your insecurities.

And without further ado, here is my advice :)

  • Forget The Past - Often times, you are probably stuck feeling flawed because of someone’s insulting statement, or because of criticism. However, if you don’t dwell on the past, you are more likely to forget what has ‘inspired’ to feel the way you do now.
  • Find Encouragement - Don’t always be focused on the negative things, and try to find ways to improve. Encourage yourself, as well as others, and you will feel much more confident in your ways. Surround yourself with people that are good for you, and your mindset will be positive.

  • List Your Achievements - Instead of constantly criticizing yourself, write out a list of all the things you have done. It could be as simple as getting an A on your test, or you could go deeper and say you graduated college (etc)!
  • Stop Comparing Yourself - Everyone is beautiful and talented in their own unique way. If you compare yourself to others, you will never realize your own value.
  • Compliment Yourself - This kind of goes in tune with the fact above (“List Your Achievements”) and it really will help you feel more confident! Instead of focusing on the flaws, find out why you think you are beautiful. Look in the mirror and tell yourself that your hair looks super shiny or that you love the dimples on your cheeks!

  • Know You Are In Control - Negative thoughts come from feeling judged by the people around you. But you are the only one that has a say in what you feel. Don’t listen to what others may say about your body or smile or anything, and you won’t feel as insecure.
  • Don’t Be Afraid To Be Unqiue - Often times, the insecurities we have are what actually makes us unique. Don’t be afraid to stick out and be original! You will feel much more confident about yourself, and maybe even inspire others!
  • Take It Slow - Just like how you can’t overcome your fears overnight, you won’t be able to accomplish overcoming insecurities overnight either. Be patient, and just take little steps to feel more confident in your own skin. Soon, you will have successfully made it!

  • Feel Pretty - Okay, so maybe this tip might not work for you, but if you feel confident, then you will be confident! If this means dressing up nicely, or wearing makeup, go for it! But it doesn’t necessarily mean that if you prefer sweatpants and sneakers. Just make sure you feel comfortable.
  • Respect Yourself - The only person you will be with forever, is yourself. So love yourself, regardless of all the things you believe are “flaws” and treat yourself with the respect you deserve. Don’t feel like you have to limit yourself, and always be open-minded. You owe it to yourself to be happy with who you are!
