Freshen up your morning routine for spring.

I’ve actually tried different versions of morning routines in the past year, and have found it useful to start small when you get started. The reason I like having a solid morning routine is that not only does it leave me with a sense of purpose, but it brings me peace and calms me down. I’m setting aside this time as a time of peace and quiet. Productive routine ensures that I’m getting important things done every morning.

But it wasn’t always this way. I used to wake up late in the day, rush through my morning to get myself ready, skipping breakfast and diving straight into work and meetings. It was tiring and dreadful. I would walk into work and uni, looking grumpy and barely awake. That was my life and I didn’t think it would change. Luckily, I was wrong. I’ve changed my mornings for the better, with a few simple steps. Now, I have a refreshing morning ritual and there is no better way to start off my day.

If your mornings are already rushed and you don’t have time to do all that, maybe start waking a little earlier. The simple solution is to go to bed a bit earlier too. Do it gradually, just 4 minutes earlier a day, and you’ll barely notice the change. But I would guess that most of us have a little extra time that we spend on useless things, that we could use in a more productive way.


Remember to keep things simple.

You shouldn't try to fit too much into your mornings. Don’t dive straight into work or little things. Consider this early morning time your as a gift and don’t fill it with junk. Forget TV, news, email and social media. Instead, put meaningful things in this time of the day, things that you won’t have a chance to do later.

Always greet the day.

I love being able to open my eyes and greet a wonderful new day. I suggest creating a morning ritual that includes being grateful for your blessings. The early morning hours are so calm and it’s my favorite time of day. Expressing my appreciation makes this time much more peaceful and enjoyable. I am always grateful for this glorious new day which has never been seen before.

Aprecciate the sunrise.

People who wake up late miss one of the greatest miracles of nature. Even though it's repeated each and every day, it's still something special for me - the rise of the sun. I love how my spring and summer mornings slowly get brighter. I like doing my early morning hikes during this time, and I look up at the sky and I thank the world for feeling extraordinary. I am grateful for the energy that fills my body and brings great joy.

Find something to look forward to.

Try to always have something you can’t wait to get up and do. For me, that’s coffee and meditation. For others, reading, journaling or eating breakfast. Don’t just focus on things you think you are obligated to do but don’t really want to. You are creating your reality. I love that in every moment we get a chance to choose to feel worse or feel better. Shift your focus!

Practice mindfulness.

I like to start my mornings with meditation. It feels like ease and relief. I love that tingling feeling in my body, which indicates the releasing of resistance. I then drink my lemon water, french pressed coffee and journal with a more mindful attitude. I started noticing small things that I might miss if I were distracted. Go through the rest of the day with that attitude. That means that you are doing one thing at a time, being as present as you can.

Rise early and make sure that you actually have time for breakfast. Eating my oatmeal while reading my book and drinking my coffee is the highlight of my day. To me, this is the perfect breakfast. After microwaving the oatmeal, add a sliced banana, frozen berries, chia seeds and granola. You can add a dash of cinnamon and a little bit of honey or maple syrup. That’s my power food, full of fiber and nutrients. It's rich in protein and good fats, it's tasty and needs only a couple of minutes of prep time.

If you want to, grab your favorite self-help book and invest one miraculous minute reading a page or two. You might learn a new idea, something that you can implement into your life. You can also discover something new that you can use to feel better today.

Daily vitamins are a must for anyone who wants to feel fresh and energized. You'll feel better about your day if you take them on a consistent, daily basis. Vitamins are essential because they help build a stronger immune system, increase your awareness. Make sure that your body gets all the essential nutrients. Vitamins can give your body the boost it needs to get started and help your mind stay focused throughout the day.

There are other times to exercise besides the early morning, of course, but I’ve found that exercising right after waking up is very enjoyable. I go slowly, enjoying the scenery, the fresh morning air and the beautiful sky. It’s actually something I enjoy doing. Pick something fun. If a nice hike outside sounds fun, do that. Or a jog with your friend, a run or bike ride with your boyfriend or girlfriend, an intense session of yoga. Even if you do it alone, focus on the stress-relieving part of working out.

Morning shower.

I really enjoy that rejuvenated feeling that my morning shower leaves me with. It helps me to kick start my day. Morning showers are a great way to ease the stress, they relieve any pains and relax your body, making you feel less tense and more comfortable when starting your day.

Make sure you have enough time to carry out your daily skincare regime. I always wash my face with a gentle cleanser, use rose water as a toner, and follow with a rich serum with vitamin C. My skin is sensitive in the mornings so using more natural, gentle products really benefits me. Then I apply my daily moisturizer and a sunscreen lotion if I plan on being outside.

Dress nicely.

I like to put time into my appearance and feel presentable when I go out of the house. While planning your outfits always see yourself dressed to perfection in just the manner that you choose for youself. What is important is that you should be pleased with you. Plus, looking good is proven to give you more confidence.

Put on some makeup if you choose to.

Remember that you look nice, whether glammed up, barefaced or with minimal makeup. Natural brows, berry lips, luminous skin. Easy, natural and uncomplicated beauty is always on trend.

Goal time.

You should have one small goal that you want to accomplish this day. And every morning, you should decide what one thing you can do today to improve yourself. Don't let yourself be limited by goals. No matter what path you follow, no matter where you end up, it’s all good. There is no bad path and no bad destination. There are no mistakes on this journey. Relax, it’s just all about the experience.

If you think that you're not a morning person: Some people just haven’t given it a try. It’s not that you’re not a morning person, it’s just that you tried to change everything too quickly. Maybe you’ve gotten up an hour earlier all at once, and hated being so tired. But finally, it’s true that some people just are better focusing late at night and morning isn’t their thing . We live by natural 24-hour cycles and these internal "clocks" determine whether you have a preference for waking up early or staying up late. There’s no need to change, that’s perfectly alright.

A good morning is created consciously. You don’t have to implement all these ideas at once. Test it out. Try the routine for a week and see what happens. Adjust if needed. You don’t have to choose the same things as me, of course. The idea is to figure out what you think would be most useful for your life.
