Hello, loves. Exam week is upon us. Essays, tests, midterms, and a whole lot of crying is coming your way. If you're like me, you see mental breakdowns in your future. But luckily for you (and me), here are some tips to get you through exam week.

Tips To Get You Through Exam Week

1. You've just been given your schedule a week before exam week.

By this point, you feel the weight of school barreling down on you. Class after class, you feel more anxious than you did before. All you want to do when you get home is fall onto your bed and possibly cry. (I would do that too.)

You can easily avoid this by making your room a comfortable place to relax. Generally, rooms already hold that title, but when it comes to school, it seems as if it is a place to shield yourself away from school, not invite it. Here are some things to do to help make your room more inviting and comfortable.

  • Put up uplifting posters. If you hang up inspirational and uplifting posters, it will help you reach that happy place and remind you that you are capable of doing anything as long as you put your mind to it.

  • Put on essential oils. I know I mentioned this in a recent article, but this definitely helps. Choose a soothing scent and just close your eyes. Breathe in and out. You're sure to relax within seconds.

  • Turn on instrumentals. Again, this was mentioned in a previous article, but I have found that when I turn on instrumentals or even uplifting and calm music, it helps to soothe my mind. The music distracts me from my anxiety and helps me get through the rest of the day.

2. It's time to study for those crazy exams.

When looking at everything you have to study for, it's easy to feel overwhelmed again. Trust me, it has happened to me so many times. But just like the room hacks, there are so many things to help make studying a little easier.
  • Grab snacks and a drink. I like to make coffee or tea before I study so I don't have to get up every time I'm hungry or get bored or even feel overwhelmed. This will help you stay on track and you are less likely to get distracted.

  • Make a study schedule. This has truly saved me. Instead of choosing a random time to study, write down all your subjects and when that test is. Dedicate a day and time to study for that class. Remember not to overstudy and only choose one or two subjects a day.

  • Create study guides. If you're in college (like me) and your professors don't give out study guides, don't worry. You can make your own. Choose the information you think is more important (or was said to be on the test) and create your own study guide to later study from.

  • Write everything out. Studies have proven that you are more likely to remember information when you write it out instead of typing it. After you write or rewrite all your notes, read them out loud. It'll add that little remembering factor.

  • Use different colored pens. If you're like me, you love colorful notes. I used to always say "Colors stimulate the brain," and quite honestly, it's kind of true. Use different colors for important people, terms, dates, etc. They'll stand out more and you'll remember the information easier.

3. Exam week is now upon.

There are so many things we need to do in order to stay completely sane during exam week. The anxiety has only progressed by this point and we are not pleasant people. Here are a few tips to help keep you relaxed during the week and ready for your exams.
  • Use face masks. I love face masks. LOVE. Whenever I feel stressed, I choose a face mask I know will help me calm down and use that. It will help you relax and leave your skin feeling soft afterward.

  • Take hot showers or baths. Hot water will help relax sore muscles and will help you get your mind off your stress. Dedicate a time to take that well-needed bath or shower and just let your mind and body relax.

  • Sleep, sleep, sleep. I know, this is always mentioned, but it couldn't be truer. Make sure you get enough sleep during the week. Staying up late studying won't help anything. If you decide to do that though, make sure you take a couple hour nap during the day so you won't feel as exhausted during that testing time.

  • Eat breakfast or bring a snack to school. Eating breakfast will help you get the energy you need. If you don't have time for breakfast (or you're like me and don't eat breakfast), bring a small snack to school. I like putting a bag of grapes in the freezer. They're healthy and taste kind of like a sweet treat. Plus, the cold might help you stay more focused and alert.

  • Water. Water is what keeps us alive. While you might want that cup of coffee in the morning, try to drink at least a little water in the morning just to get your day started and bring a water bottle with you to school. Trust me, it will help. And if you want, you can even put fruits or cucumber into your water to give it a little extra taste and more vitamins to help you get through the day.

Like always, I hope you have an amazing rest of your day and weekend.
