I thought i'd try my hand at another article, so here's my clear skin story.

I've had really bad acne since I was pretty young. My skin would go through phases where it would be terrible in one specific place on my face like my forehead and once I cleared it up there, another part of my face like my chin would break out.

I've also had my face go from incredibly oily to super dry in only a few years.

I've had many visits to the dermitologist, and I've tried lots of medications for my face. So I've learned quite a few things that I'd like to share with you.

1. WASH YOUR FACE!

First things first. You can't get clear skin if your skin isnt clean in the first place. One of the main reasons I was always broken out was because I didn't wash my face twice a day. Once in the morning and once at night. I would forget or neglect it and in turn I'd break out.

2. TAKE OFF ALL MAKEUP BEFORE SLEEPING!

One thing I learned recently is that washing your face doesn't actually take off all your makeup. It's important to make sure it's all off before sleeping otherwise it will clog your pores causing you to break out. Heres a few ways to get off your makeup.
- Coconut Oil
just get some on a cotton ball or cotton pad and rub it all around your face to remove your makeup
- Micellar Water
Its basically water that cleans your skin, removes dirt, and removes makeup
- Face makeup remover
don't use eye makeup remover, instead find a makeup remover intended for your face that also doesn't include oil

3. ITS NOT ALL ABOUT THE PRODUCTS YOU USE

Unless your skin is so terrible that theres no other way and you have to buy expensive treatments to clear up your skin, its not all about the products! There are lots of face washes that cost around ten dollars that are better than twenty or more dollar ones.

4. DON'T TOUCH YOUR FACE

For real, if you keep your hands on your face, all the dirty things you've touched, desks, doorknobs, all that, is getting bacteria on your face.

5. DON'T WIPE YOUR FACE TOO HARD OR TREAT IT ROUGHLY

Our skin is sensitive and if you irritate it, breakouts are more likely to occur. Before I wore makeup I used to wipe the oil on my face off on my jacket which would irritate my face causing it to break out. Its the same for scrubs or anything else that is irritating your face. There are good scrubs, then there are ones that hurt your face.

6. STING DOESN'T MEAN ITS WORKING

Toner stings, meaning its cleaning and drying you up, but that doesn't mean when other things sting they're doing the same thing, infact they could be damaging your skin

7. IF THERES A MAKEUP PRODUCT THATS MAKING YOU BREAK OUT STOP USING IT

My old foundation was on a sort of stick sponge and continuously using it made my skin break out. I had to switch to foundation I applied with my fingers or a beauty blender. I've been using Fenty foundation and I love it because it hasn't affected my skin at all.

8. DON'T BE AFRAID TO THROW OUT YOUR BEAUTY BLENDER

Even though you wash it, your beauty blender still retains the color of your foundation right? Well just like that, it also harbors bacteria. Its important to replace your beauty blenders after awhile. I even stopped using mine all together.

9. IT IS IMPORTANT TO TREAT YOUR SKIN TYPE

I can't emphasize this enough, treat your skin the way it needs to be treated! Dont use a cleanser for oily skin if you have dry skin, and the other way around. If you're super dry, maybe lay back on the products drying out your face. If you're oily, try to dry your face out a little to prevent as many breakouts

10. MOISTURIZER IS EVERY TYPE OF SKIN'S BEST FRIEND

Moisturizer is important whether you are oily or dry. When you wash your face, make sure to apply moisturizer right after. Oily skin gets dry too. It's important to hydrate your face.

11. EAT LESS SUGAR

Sugar doesn't cause acne but it does make it worse. When I eat lots of sugar my skin gets visibly worse. So maybe cut back on the sweets, I always keep an eye on how much sugar is in the things I eat. Just look on the back.

12. GIRLS, YOUR PERIOD DOES AFFECT IT

I break out around a week before I start my period. Like clockwork. And it's completely normal. It doesn't mean I've been eating too much sugar or anything, just that my hormones are going slightly out of wack. Kind of like how we get moodswings around then.

13. GIVE IT TIME

Nobody cleared up their skin quickly. I've been struggling with it all my life.
BUT
I saw a picture of myself from a few months ago, and my skin looked terrible compared to how it looks now. I never thought I'd have as clear skin as I do now. I washed my face religiously and tried atleast ten cleansers. I tried a bunch of products that cost over fifty dollars and they helped but none of them cleared me up completely. I had to find what worked for ME, not what the internet or tv told me would. Eventually I did and my skin still breaks out occasionally, but its a million times better.
