So I just thought I'd share with you my current skincare routine and some tips that I think are essential!

Just for reference, my skin type is combo, oily in my t zone with occasional hormonal acne around my chin and mouth.

Morning ☀️

1. I wash my face with warm water then pat dry with clean towel.

2. Spray generously with Mario Basescu Rosewater.

3. I moisturise with Olay Complete Lightweight Day Fluid SPF15 - but any lightweight moisturiser is fine!

4. I use Etude House Sunprise SPF50+ PA+++ (SPF is so important!) This is a good cheap one that I can wear under makeup - beware of flashback though when wearing SPF.

Night 🌜

1. If I've been wearing makeup that day I use Heimish All Clean Balm to remove it. This even removes the most stubborn waterproof mascara and doesn't sting your eyes!

2. Then I cleanse with Boots Essentials Cucumber Facial Wash - but any cheap cleanser will work, sometimes I use Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Facial Wash.

Tip - What I've done in these first two steps is double cleansing. This is using a balm, oil or micellar water to first break down any makeup, SPF and sebum that is on your face then going in with a water based cleanser. It's basically a much more effective, deep cleanse than simply using one or the other or a makeup wipe. Personally I only use this method when I've been wearing makeup to make sure I get every bit of it off.

3. Next I use a DIY apple cider vinegar and lavender oil toner. This is just water and ACV mixed in a 1:3 ratio with a few drops of lavender essential oil. If you have sensitive skin use less ACV and more water.

Tip - Essential oils have been shown to have multiple benefits both in skincare and aroma therapy but always dilute them down! They can damage or burn your skin if you put them directly on your skin. Also always do a spot check before applying any to your face and if you have very sentive skin perhaps give them a miss.

4. I've just recently begun using Superdrug Vitamin E Serum. I only use a small amount and pat it into my face. I chose this serum because vitamin e has wound healing properties so will help with acne scarring, is a good moisturiser and it was cheap! There are loads of different serums targeted at different skin issues, I'd reccomend looking into it.

5. The moisturiser I'm using at night is currently Cetaphil Moisturising Lotion. This is good for sensitive skin and is nice and thick for nighttime use. However it does contain alcohol and this an ingredient I'd prefer to avoid in my moisturiser as it can make oily skin oilier and dry skin even drier with long-term use.

6. As a final step I apply a thick layer of petrolatum-free lip balm aka one without any petroleum jelly. So no Vaseline, ChapStick or Baby Lips! This ingredient doesn't actually hydrate your lips, just forms a layer on top of them that you have to keep reapplying throughout the day. Some of my favourite alternatives are Nivea, Burt's Bees or the Lush lip balms.

Occasional steps 🕓

Once a week, on different days, I use these products:

Glycolic acid toner - I use the Mario Badescu one. Alternatives include The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution and PIXI Glow Tonic. This is an exfoliating toner that accelerates skin cell turnover, making your skin softer and more youthful looking. I only use this once or twice a week because it has caused me to break out if I use it daily. Also be careful because glycolic acid increases you skin's sensitivity to the sun so make sure you use SPF!

Sheet mask - My favourites are the TonyMoly I'm Real Sheet Masks. I use this after my toner. Make sure you pat all the essence into your skin after you remove the mask - don't wash it off!

Secret Key Lemon Sparkling Peeling Gel - This is a gentle exfoliater that I apply after cleansing my face. You just rub it gently over your face and it removes any excess dead skin on your face.

Once a month I use Aztec Secret Indian Healing Facial Clay Mask. I make mine with apple cider vinegar and a few drops of tea tree oil. I limit this to once a month because it is so powerful and if I used it more it could dry out my skin.

Extra tips 🌻

Inspiring Image on We Heart It food, healthy, and delicious image

Eat Healthy - You've heard this hundreds of times before but it does help! Admittedly am not the healthiest eater but I do try to eat at least 5 servings of fruit/veg a day and to stay away from fast food.

Stay Hydrated - So important to keep your skin looking fresh and youthful! Always keep a bottle of water with you and drink throughout the day. Also eating fruits and veg with high water content helps with this such as cucumber and watermelon.

Use SPF - This is essential in protecting your skin from sun damage that can cause premature ageing and possibly skin cancer. Use this in the winter and even if it's not a very sunny day with or without makeup.
