Hello everyone! It's been awhile since I've written an article here, a month almost. I guess the main reason why I haven't written an article was writer’s block. With lack of inspiration, no creative ideas have come to mind. But hopefully my writer’s block is gone for good and I can sharing my ideas with you guys!

So we all know that Valentine's Day is tomorrow. It seems that with each year the amount of contempt for the holiday increases. Though people have their reasons to hate the Valentine's Day, it still makes me sad because this is actually #1 on my list of my favorite holidays (right above Thanksgiving). Ever since I was a kid, I would always look forward to the card exchange and party in my classroom. When middle school came around, I would give my close friends and family handmade cards and baked goods I made the night before. However by the time I started dating my boyfriend Brandon in high school, the holiday had a whole new meaning for me. Every year since then, Brandon has always done his best to make Valentine's day special for me. Whether it's him buying me a box of my favorite chocolates or treating me to a small shopping spree at my favorite store, it's his effort to make me smile is what makes everything so special.

Because of all of the special things he would do for me, I always tried my best to make him happy on that day too. The thing about Brandon is that he's a very simple guy; whenever I asks what would he want for Valentine's Day (and on Xmas and his birthday for that matter), he'd just say buy me whatever and that's all. What am I supposed to do with that?! Each year, I try to buy him something that would match his personality and his interests. For example, one year when he was really into Minecraft, I bought him a Minecraft hoodie, or that one time I got him a My Little Pony comic book (yes, he was a brony in high school…). While he would genuinely appreciate the sentiment, somehow I knew I missed the mark. It took me a long time to realize that he's just not that into material things. He'd be happy if I got him a pack of tube socks. And just because he’s a huge geek, it doesn’t he would want geeky merchandise. While that does make things easier, I still do worry about not being able to make him truly happy, which I know is really silly but it can't be helped I guess.

thank god this was just a phase...

Despite my shortcomings and worries, the one thing that never seems to fail with Brandon is so basic and simply it's kinda crazy. One word: cookies. Every year, I always make Brandon a huge batch of cookies. I would take the time the night before and bake him two dozen cookies. His favorite cookie is chocolate chips but there were times when I surprised him with different kinds like snickerdoodle or sugar cookie. This year, I'm planning on making him both chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies (my first time making the latter) so we’ll see how that goes.

Another thing that plan on doing this year is a more personal approach. I decided on giving him handwritten love letters. I know at surface value it doesn't seem that special and I'll give you that. But lately Brandon's been working a lot and always seem to look so haggard, and it's really hard seeing him that way. I feel that him reading each love letter I made for him will lift his spirits and let him know that he'll always have one person cheering for him.

my letters aren't gonna look as nice as these but it's the thought that counts right?

So that's basically how I feel about Valentine's Day. To me, Valentine's Day is the one day of the year where me and my hubby go the extra extra mile to show how much we love each other. It doesn't mean that we don't already do that whenever we can, it's just I love how this day is our special day together.

And to everyone, I hope you have a great Valentine's!
