There’s so much that I wish I could tell you, but the truth is— if I told you everything— you’d never learn about the real world. The best I can do is to leave you here with a few of the things you’ll experience in your lifetime.

Love: You’ll fall in and out of love and experience varying natures of love. There’s the love you’ll have for your best friend, the love you’ll have for your first love and then there’s the love you’ll have for who you marry. You’re going to get your heart broken, I’m sorry sweetheart, it can’t be prevented. But it’s okay. Heartbreak is what will make you who you are, it’ll hurt, it'll sting like a bitch, it’ll drive you insane at times, it’ll make you cry, but most importantly, it’ll be a growing period for you. No matter who breaks your heart, never lose or forget your self-worth in the meantime. He may have the most beautiful eyes you have ever glanced into and he may be the captain of the football team, but it doesn’t mean you have to lose yourself in him. No matter what happens or how grave any heartbreak you face becomes, I’ll always be there. I’ll never break your heart, I’ll help put the pieces back together.

Happiness: Ah, the lovely delight of happiness. It’s a bittersweet thing for several reasons. Darling, you’ll discover happiness in the humblest of places that will be the greatest of blessings. If you’re anything like me you’ll encounter happiness between the lines of song lyrics and in the springtime air. There will be times you’ll feel on top of the world and wear the most illustrious smile anyone could ever imagine—this might be because of a boy— or purely because you’re a high spirited angel who unearths happiness in the smallest places. Happiness will follow you and find you, never doubt that. I hope it finds you from the moment you take your first breath.

Sadness: Unfortunately, in this lifetime, you will perceive sadness at some point, it won’t always be in the form of crying your eyes out in your bedroom while hearkening sad music. It’ll be when you’re in a crowded room that feels so hollow. Sadness doesn’t only arise at 2 am when you’re alone with your thoughts, it can appear at 4 pm when you’re getting ice cream. No matter when you feel the sadness of any sort, my arms are eternally open, whether you’re 6 years old clutching a teddy bear or 16 years old and denouncing me for not letting that one guy drive you to the football game.

You're going to be scared in life, both for good and bad reasons. I promise there aren't any monsters under your bed, instead, they are more spread across and in forms your flaws. They're your self-doubt and every concern you possess. No matter what terrifies you in this life, don't let it define you. You are not your worries or your sadness— you are not what everyone labels you as— you are the person you stare at every morning in the mirror. Never be scared to speak your mind and to stand up for what you believe in, never be scared to chase after your dreams of success. Don't let anyone frighten you into believing you're not good enough or intelligent enough because you are more than enough to strive for your achievements. You can grow up to be anything and everything you want, there is no limit to what you can become. There is nothing in this world you can't achieve.
