Every day may not be good, but there is something good in every day.

Lately, the days have been passing by in a blur like a train whose shape I can barely make out before it seems to change into something entirely different. I am following a very mundane, similar day-to-day routine. As someone who likes structure, this is comforting and I am okay with that. But, people will tell you that you need to get out of your comfort zone. I agree with that, as well. Change makes you notice more and absorb more of every moment of your life. Here's the thing: each day, you can't change up your life entirely. It's about noticing the good things in each day that will make your days stand out as good days. I'm going to take you a typical day in my life to show you how I accomplish that.

By no means am I a morning person. I am quite the opposite. Yet, school has me up before the sun rises, getting startled by the toaster. It's not that I don't want to be a morning person, it's just that, for me, it takes a lot of effort. When I get up, it is dark, I am exhausted and I can't do anything remotely noisy because the rest of the family is still asleep (always jealous of them). That means no waking myself up with a dance party and no making smoothies to go with whatever I manage to put together for breakfast. It is easily the hardest part of my day.
Despite not catching the sun rising and how heavy my eyelids feel in the morning, I manage to look on the bright side. Waking up to a brand new day means brand new possibilities. Cliché but true. The day you wake up to could bring new people into your life... new music, new realizations, a challenge that you will overcome... new strength. I take it into my hands to make it into a good day. It doesn't mean that I have to be a morning person, just that I am grateful to wake up to a brand new day. Starting your day out with at least this one positive thought can lead you to a better day, the kind of day that every day has the potential to be.

As soon as I fully accept that I will try to make the day as best as I possibly can, I am still yawning my way through classes. Positive thinking is so important but it isn't necessarily a cure for not getting enough sleep. School is not exactly fun and I'm not going to try to make it more than it is, but there are good things hidden in your daily routine. For example, my earbuds are in whenever I get a break in the school day as music is usually the source of my smiles. This helps me get through the day. But it is balanced with listening to what is around me, whether it's my friends or really trying to learn something from my teachers. Engaging in the day helps make it memorable. Being grateful for opportunities presented throughout the day helps, as well. I am grateful for every day that I do not have homework. I am proud of myself for every day that I work hard in class so that I do not have homework (I'm not a fan of homework). For me, it feels good to accomplish as much as I can. It also feels good to allow yourself to rest and be okay with not accomplishing everything you set out for yourself in a day. Clearly, there is a lot to consider in 24 hours.

After focusing for so long in school, I am simply happy to get home. I take as long as I need to not think about what may have gone wrong throughout the day and to sort through everything that has me overwhelmed. Getting the time to do this makes my day go smoother in so many ways. This is when I fit in time for me to do things that I enjoy. Sometimes it's practicing guitar and sometimes it's writing a few of thoughts out. Try to do at least one thing every day that really makes you feel good. Towards the end of the day, you get to reflect on the small moments that made you happy. These things are what makes your day better. Small things are what you can incorporate into your life daily and to not feel a redundant routine because you can change it up while still doing something that makes you happy. Essentially, that is how I find everyday happiness.
I hope you can find your own everyday happiness and that you can start your day with a sun rise in some kind of way.
