Today's article is going to be on skin types and how to get soft skin, my article before on ‘guide to glowy skin and self-care’ had gotten quite a lot of hearts and many of you had further questions so ill try and answer them as detailed as I can in this article as the main question was on skin types.

Skin Types

Dry Skin

Causes of dry skin: this can be genetics or the hormones however if you develop dry skin as you grow up then its caused by using harsh soaps, itchy clothing, misusing moisturiser, and long, hot showers.
Treatments for dry skin are: to use gentle, unscented skin care products, short showers with lukewarm water, apply moisturiser right after washing face/body and stick to ointments or creams instead of lotions.

Moisturisers I would recommend: Bebe, Olay. Clinque, Biotherm and Doublebase sell the best ones.

I do have dry skin and I stick to Bebe however that product is only available in Germany and Switzerland, when I do visit those countries I stock up on them. When I run out Bebe I use Olay which is for dry skin. I use Doublebase for when I have dry patches on my face which burn.

Oily Skin

Oily skin often has shine on their face, and may deal with breakouts on a regular basis. Oily skin types usually have larger, more noticeable pore.

Causes of oily skin: this can be due to body producing excessive oil that is unnecessary.

Treatment for oily skin are: use a light moisturizer, oil free products, apply witch hazel before using makeup, do a face mask every 2-3 times a week, look at the food you eat, exfoliate every other day.

Moisturisers I recommend: Clarins, Kiehls, Cetaphil, Bare Minerals and Neutrogena face creams sell the best ones.

Normal Skin

Normal skin has a good balance of moisture, small pores and an even tone.
This is what most people aim for and to maintain normal skin would be to limit sun exposure or do use sun protection when going out in the sun as the UV rays can cause your skin to get damages and ruin the normal ‘texture’

Any moisturiser with SPF 15 or more is good for normal skin.

Combination Skin

Combination skin can be dry or normal in some areas and oily in others, such as the T-zone (nose, forehead, and chin).

Causes of combination skin are: in the oily areas there is more active oil glands, which is why these areas may be prone to clogged pores. The cheeks, on the other hand, may have less active oil glands, which is why they may appear dry and flaky.

Treatment for combination skin are: use a gentle but effective water-soluble cleanser, apply a hydrating, soothing non-irritating toner, use sun protection, apply the right moisturiser to the right parts of your skin, use a gel/serum moisturiser as it is packed with all the ingredients needed.

Moisturisers I recommend: Cetaphil, The Ordinary, Clinque, The Body Shop and Estee Lauder sell the best ones.

Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin is prone to itching and irritation experienced as a subjective sensation when using cosmetics and toiletries.

Causes of sensitive skin are: Skin disorders or allergic skin reactions such as eczema, rosacea, or allergic contact dermatitis. ... Excessive exposure to skin-damaging environmental factors such as sun and wind or excessive heat or cold.

Treatments for sensitive skin are: warm, not hot, baths and showers, soap-free cleanser, use a moisturizer containing petrolatum, mineral oil, linoleic acid, ceramides, dimethicone, or glycerin and apply moisturizer while your skin is still moist.

Moisturisers I recommend: Vaseline, Lancôme, Sukin, Burt’s Bee and Aveeno sell the best ones.
