We all do it, spending hours of our days scrolling, liking, posting and sending to various social media platforms. As someone who is currently on summer holidays I spend A LOT of my time on these apps and lately I've realised how this has impacted me mentally. On the 14th January I decided that I would attempt at taking a break from social media. If you're like me and want to take a break but don't know how then keep reading as I have some tips for you...

Tips on How to Achieve This:

  • Create a realistic time frame as to how long you want this break to go for. For me I have chosen 3 days, starting smaller is always better.
  • Pick which social media apps you are going to take a break from, for me it is mainly Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook.
  • Don't be too strict on yourself if this is the first time you're attempting this. I have allowed myself the morning to check my accounts but for the rest of the day I'll try to stay off these platforms.

What you can do instead of using social media.

One of the reasons why I was reluctant to do this was because I didn't know what else I would do with my time. I managed to create a list of things I could do, feel free to use my list or create your own personalised to your interests.

☼ Watch videos on Youtube

☼ Watch movies/ Start a new TV series

☼ Read a book (can be online)

☼ Practice doing my makeup

☼ Listen to music/ discover new songs

☼ Spend time with family and friends

☼ Write some articles (like this one 😉 )

☼ Do something creative; draw, colourings, edit photos etc.

Notice the difference

I'm currently on my second day of my social media cleanse and after one day I felt quite inspired and clear minded about things. I recommend everyone who spends too much time on social media to try and take a break to see if it helps your mind to feel healthier.
