Everyone goes through a stage where they have no idea what they want their future career and if you're on my blog I think its safe to assume you're at that point in your life where you're taking exams soon. It's scary to see how close you are to deciding a career path and having no idea what you want to be so I've started a series of articles featuring jobs in many subjects.

B I O L O G Y

Most people assume all jobs in biology require you to be some sort of surgeon or nurse but while a lot of jobs in biology are in the hospital, not all of them are like that.

Job 1. Marine Biologist

You would be working on projects to study the oceans plants and animals to get a better understanding of how they live.
You may have to travel for this job and your hours would be irregular but you could be gaining an annual salary of almost £50,000.

Subjects you need:

  • Biology
  • Maths
  • English
  • Chemistry

Job 2. Forensic Scientist

You would be visiting crime scenes and taking samples of evidence found there. You would then use this evidence (examples of evidence could be blood, notes with handwriting on it, etc) to help solve a crime or present it in court as evidence.
You would be working a 9-5, Monday to Friday job but could be called in out with your working hours if needed.

Subjects you need:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • English
  • Computing
  • Psychology

Job 3. Microbiologist

You would be studying microorganisms like bacteria and and viruses to develop new medicines and vaccines, help control pollution or test if food is okay for people to eat.
You would be working a 9-5, Monday to Friday job spending the majority of that time in a lab.

Subjects you need:

  • English
  • Maths
  • Sciences, especially biology
