❝ Could you make an article about what to do when you feel down and stupid? Like with school stuff and studying. ❞ asked by @little_jellyfish

I think we all feel this way about ourselves and/or grades at some points. For some of us it's not always frequent, unfortunately other people do stay this way for long periods of time and it starts to take a toll on their work. I can tell you from personal experience, that it's no fun stressing about your grades because it demotivates you and sometimes to the point that you don't even feel like carrying on anymore. If you've ever hit that low point where all hope is lost, I'm telling you that it's not. You CAN still work through all shortcomings and come out with the best... YOUR best.

Today's article is a little different, usually I come up with the ideas I talk about but @little_jellyfish sent me the message above and I'm going to answer it. I hope you all enjoy.

The past is in the past

Something one of my teachers liked to tell us was that once you finish a paper for an exam, don't think about it. Once you leave the exam hall, your top priority should be planning to do your best on your next paper. You don't even have to discuss your answers with your classmates/friends, just go somewhere you can take a break and get yourself together.

Stop comparing

In the words of a great band (One Direction), ❝ Nobody compares to you. ❞ That's right, you are unique and you have your own strengths and weakness. One of the major problems is that we tend to compare ourselves to other people and put ourselves down if we think we aren't at their level. Please stop it, if you're only going to look at what you're doing wrong without planning on how to work on it and improve then comparing is only going to make you feel worse about yourself. It's not a race, everyone is going at their own pace. Work on your weaknesses and make them your strengths. It's okay if you have to take time off to work on yourself, all that matters if you use that time wisely and come out on top.

The power of the mind

Your mind is a lot more powerful than you might think. One thought is all it takes to put you in a bad mood all day or make you the bubbliest and liveliest person in the room. It's all about how you perceive yourself. Look no one is truly stupid, just because you aren't good at x,y,z doesn't stop you from being amazing at a,b,c. Rome wasn't built in day, so your self-esteem and self-worth isn't going to sky rocket because of ONE positive thought when there are millions of negative ones cancelling it out. You have to keep telling yourself and reminding yourself just how awesome and amazing you are because it's true. You are beautiful, kind, intelligent, sweet, funny, caring and much more – but it starts with you recognizing all of that first.

Make an inspiration/motivation board

I think if we can physically see what we hope to achieve; it makes working towards it easier. Find space on your wall (somewhere you'll look at the most) and fill it with inspirational photos, quotes and things that just make you happy. Alternatively, you could write positive messages on post its and stick them all around your room, especially on your bed, closet and mirror. I think it can help you cheer up just a bit if you're ever having a bad day.

❝ If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and then make a change. ❞ - Michael Jackson, Man in the mirror
