The third day is a list of my favourite books and the one I'm probably most excited about except day eleven. I've listed both books I enjoyed as a young reader and books I enjoy now so there is a bit of variety. The YA and adult books will be nearer to the top and the 12+ books will be towards the bottom. Also, I've included the synopsis for either the independent novel or the synopsis for the entire series. So let's get right into it.

Clary Fray’s search for her missing mother leads her into an alternate New York called Downworld, filled with mysterious faeries, hard-partying warlocks, not-what-they-seem vampires, an army of werewolves, and the demons who want to destroy it all. She also finds herself torn between two boys—her best friend, Simon, for whom she’s developing new feelings, and the mysterious Shadowhunter, Jace. She becomes a part of the secret world of the Shadowhunters and as she does, she discovers that rescuing her mother might mean jeopardizing everything the Shadowhunters work for. (Source:

Bloodlines Hexology by Richelle Mead

Rose's story might have wrapped up in the Vampire Academy series, but there's still lots more to tell about the other characters from that world. This spin-off series centers around Sydney the Alchemist, a human teen who's part of a group to keep the existence of vampires secret from the world. Sydney's spent her entire life being taught that vampires and dhampirs are evil and unnatural, but all that's about to change when she's forced into hiding with Jill, Adrian, and Eddie... (Source:

Couisin's War Hexology - Philpa Gregory

philipa gregory and cousin's war image

The White Princess tells the story of Henry VIII’s parents, Henry VII and his wife, Elizabeth of York. Until I started reading this series, I didn’t know much about King Henry VIII’s predecessors; however, their lives were just as scandalous as his! This series is full of murder, mystery, war, and romance. If you are looking for a series with any of these things, I would suggest reading the Cousins' War series! Phillipa Gregory takes an already scandalous but true series of events in history and adds her twist to give the story more depth. For instance, in The White Princess, she weaves a story about what could possibly have happened to the famed Princes in the Tower and the events surrounding their disappearance, as told by their sister, Elizabeth of York. Poor Elizabeth’s father, King Edward IV, dies and her uncle, Richard III, steals the throne. Her younger brothers, rightful heirs to the throne, go missing. Then, Henry Tudor defeats Richard, takes the throne, becoming Henry VII, and marries Elizabeth. Elizabeth never knows for sure what happened to her brothers, but Gregory’s idea of what could have happened is a very good theory! (Source:

Night World Ennealogy - L.J. Smith

lj smith and night world image

The series centers on the covert existence of vampires, witches, werewolves and shapeshifters, the coalition of which is known as the Night World. All of these creatures maintain a code of secrecy, not allowing the human race to be aware of its existence due to lethal altercations throughout history. The Night World allows for the torment, conversion and killing of human beings, within reason and with permission, though for the most part the citizens of the Night World are indifferent to humans. However, there are two consistent cardinal laws: humans cannot be told of the Night World, and it is illegal to fall in love with one. The novels focus on instances in which these two main laws, punishable by death, are broken. (Source:

Dark Visions Trilogy - L.J. Smith

lj smith and dark visions image

The trilogy follows the protagonist, Kaitlyn Fairchild, a teenager with the ability to see the future, which she draws out as pictures. Her ability is deemed both a "gift" and a "curse", as she cannot control what visions come, and usually they speak of an impending tragedy. However, Kaitlyn is soon offered the opportunity to attend the Zetes Institute, an organization for young people with psychic abilities such as herself. She accepts the offer, coming to live at the institute and meeting four others with gifts like herself: Anna, who can psychically communicate with animals, Lewis, a psychokinetic, Rob, a handsome and naive young man with the power to heal others, and Gabriel, a dark and mysterious youth with an initially unknown power, but one deemed very dangerous. Despite the apparent ease in which she fits into the institute and her growing attraction to Rob, Kaitlyn and the others soon uncover a dark secret about the institute and its true purpose for wanting them. The Forbidden Game focuses on the character of Jenny Thornton, a seventeen year old girl living in southern California. In need of a game for her boyfriend Tom Locke's birthday party, she is enticed by a mysterious young man with "electric" blue eyes and snow-white hair, Julian, into purchasing an unmarked and undecorated game from his "More Games" store. However, the game she buys turns out to be more than anyone expected, as it very soon comes to life at the behest of Julian, who is in fact a supernatural entity: a Shadow Man who brings to life the worst nightmares of those he targets. Julian has a particular fascination with Jenny, as he has been in love with her since she was a child, and seeks to use his games and schemes to erode Jenny's resistance and make her his own forever. Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever. Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world. (Source:

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring… until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up. And then he opened his mouth. Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something… unexpected happens. The hot alien living next door marks me. You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades. If I don’t kill him first, that is.
