Struggling with dry, oily or frizzy hair can be a huge ordeal; that we've all experienced at some point in our lives. It can make you want to hide away from the world or simply just put it up and try to persuade people to look anywhere than at your hair.

You just want to hide away from the world and discourage people from seeing your hair in all it's glory.

My hair is a constant struggle for me. I just want it to look and feel beautiful and flow in the breeze!
A few years ago I discovered hair masks and they are amazing. I use a hair mask about once a week or fortnight (depending on my hair at the time). So I decided to write this article and share some hair masks that I use.

Ingredients for Hair Masks

Here are some common ingredients for hair masks. You can mix and match however you please and experiment to find what ingredients and combinations work best for you.

  • Coconut/Olive/Jojoba/Avocado oil
  • Eggs
  • Honey
  • Avocado/Banana/Strawberry
  • Green tea
  • Lemon

Coconut Oil Mask

Coconut oil is a godsent.
  • Heat 2tbsp-6tbsp (depending on hair length and thickness) of coconut oil in a glass bowl above boiling water.
  • Gently massage the oil into your hair, starting at the scalp and continuing to your hair ends.
  • Leave the coconut oil in for at least an hour to give your hair a good condition. Wrap your hair up in a shower cap, towel or silk wrap. (You can also leave the coconut oil in overnight for an even deeper condition)
  • Wash the oil out with shampoo and conditioner. Sometimes you may need to shampoo twice.
  • Repeat once a week or fortnight, depending on your hair needs.

Your hair will be loving you for the hydration!

This mask will make your hair shiny and strong.

Perfect for when you don't have any oil or many ingredients on hand.

  • Mix 1 or 2 eggs with 2 to 4tbsp of honey in a bowl
  • Apply the mixture to your hair, starting at the roots through to the ends.
  • Cover hair with shower cap and leave in for at least an hour (your hair will feel quite sticky and hard-don't worry that's normal).
  • Wash out mixture and shampoo and condition your hair.

Avocado Hair Mask

This avocado mask is perfect for hydrating your hair.
  • Mix one ripe avocado, 2tbsp olive oil and 2tbsp honey in a bowl (you can also add an essential oil such as lavender if you like).
  • Apply the mixture to your hair, starting at the scalp through to the tips of your hair.
  • Cover hair with a shower cap and leave in for 45mins to an hour.
  • Wash out mixture and shampoo and condition your hair.

All of these hair masks will give your hair much needed hydration and a deep condition. Remember that it's also important to drink lots of water and eat healthy foods to give yourself beautiful tresses.

You can also use a tad of oil each day in your hair for the ends of your hair, to remove tangles and relieve a dry scalp. You can also use lavender oil to stimulate hair growth by rubbing it into you scalp before you go to bed.
