Hello my name is Joanna. I haven’t been active on this account for a while. But I am really intrigued by all these different articles that exist on here. So here’s what I want to try: I love reading but I also love movies. In this article and the (hopefully) many still to come, I would like to offer my own film and series reviews. Therefore I am going to upload a couple of reviews to see how it goes. Since the genres I usually watch include Dramas, Comedies, Thrillers, Romance and Action, those are the ones I will mostly be writing about. Most of these movies and series aren’t recent, so this is just a random collection of the ones that I like. So sit down, take notes and enjoy a couple of these movies (unless you don’t want to, thanks for reading this anyway).

1. August: Osage County (2013)

Inspiring Image on We Heart It

Starring:
Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Sam Shepard, Ewan McGregor, Abigail Breslin

Plot:
This is a comedy-drama about a dysfunctional family. They all come together when Beverly Weston disappears, a family father, husband, grandfather and alcoholic. His wife who suffers from cancer is addicted to narcotics. When their three daughters arrive the atmosphere becomes more and more tense.

Review:
The acting in this movie is absolutely phenomenal! It is quite long but absolutely worth it. What I really liked was that even though this family is so bitter towards each other, I could still identify with them in some ways. I highly recommend it.

Rating: 8/10

2. Focus (2015)

classic, focus, and movie image

Starring:
Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Rodrigo Santoro

Plot:
This romantic crime comedy-drama is about a veteran con man Nicky. In the midst of his latest scheme, a woman from his past – now an accomplished femme fatale – shows up and throws his plans for a loop.

Review:
Although this movie didn’t get the best critics, I have to say that this movie is also one of my favourites. It has a lot of twists and a witty sense of humour. It involves some action scenes but what really got me were the many surprising moments in the movie. Definitely worth watching in my opinion.

Rating: 7/10

3. Bachelorette (2012)

best friends, movie, and drugs image

Starring:
Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher, Lizzy Caplan, Rebel Wilson

Plot:
Three friends are asked to be bridesmaids at a wedding of a woman they used to ridicule back in high school. They accidently rip the dress, starting a race against time in which the dress has to be repaired, because the wedding is set for the following day.

Review:
This is one of my favourite comedies of all time. It’s like a dirty chick flick if that makes any sense. It has some hilarious one-liners and is really funny.

Rating: 8/10

4. AMY (2015)

Inspiring Image on We Heart It

Starring:
Amy Winehouse, Mitch Winehouse, Mark Ronson

Plot:
Archival footage and personal testimonials show a portrait of the life and career of Amy Winehouse.

Review:
Heart-breaking. I suggest getting tissues for this one because it really is sad. I really think that this documentary is emotional for not only fans but people who weren’t necessarily listening to her music. This movie is an eye-opener.

Rating: 9/10

5. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2011)

rooney mara image

Starring:
Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Christopher Plummer

Plot:
Journalist Mikael Blomkvist is searching for a woman who has been missing for forty years and is aided by Lisbeth Salander, a young computer hacker.

Review:
This is a movie full of action and emotions. I like it a lot because even though Daniel Craig is as good as usually in this movie, Rooney Mara takes the cake with her transformation. Great actors and great story.

Rating: 7/10

So these are the first five for now. I’ll try to post more soon because boy, have I watched many movies and series.
The pictures used in here aren’t mine.

I’d appreciate any type of feedback <3
