film, life, and quotes image

I've always been obsessed with movies of a certain kind. Sure, I love your average thrillers and romantic comedies and such like most people do, but there were a few movies that I've watched and couldn't forget up until today. (Also there may be a few spoilers here and there along the way but these are all movies I'd watch a thousand times even though I already know about the twists and I hope you can too :) )

Quentin Tarantino Movies

Pulp Fiction, Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight are my absolute favourite movies written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. The captivating storyline, the brilliant actors and the one-of-a-kind plot twists: all reasons to fall in love with these movies over and over again.

Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain

This movie means a lot to me because, like a few other movies that I am going to mention later on, this movie manages to capture the viewers attention through artistic ways of storytelling and colorful creativity. I completely lost myself inside the complex but beautiful mind of Amélie and questioned what we're aware of and how we perceive out surroundings.

Big Fish

I adore Tim Burton's movies because of their unique style and the way he manages to combine horror with comedy and romance. But this movie I chose in particular for this list, because the unreliability of the narrator and the unbelievably artistic scenes are absolutely one of a kind. It manages to be full of creative shots and an artistic, surreal art style without becoming too confusing or boring and the message of the movie really touched me deeply.

The Great Gatsby

Even though my sister still claims that the older version of this movie (which I still need to watch, sorry Carola!) was way better, I do stand by my opinion that the theatrical and over-the-top moments featured in The Great Gatsby have been chosen very wisely to convey the blasts of the 20's and Gatsby's mad, even fanatic love for daisy. Additionally, F.Scott Fitzgerald is my favorite classical author and his story is absolutely captivating.

The Theory of Everything

I love the reality of this movie. It is, first of all, supposed to portray the life of Stephen Hawking. The way he fell deeply in love and the reality of falling out of love. Granted, of course I was disappointed at first because we all dream about the big, romantic love hat lasts forever and no matter what, but sometimes life isn't what we expect. And The Theory of Everything shows us that there is always hope, in so many ways, no matter how dark the situation might seem for us.

The Age of Adaline

An absolute reminder that each moment should be lived to the fullest because our time is limited. This also is a brilliantly written love story with twists and turns, always just tragic enough and just happy enough to keep the viewer interested. I also loved the historic elements and how family is potrayed during the movie.

Lemony Snicket: A Series of Unfortunate Events

movie, desventuras em série, and black and white image

Okay seriously I don't even know where to begin with this one. Lemony Snicket (Daniel Handler) is a great author and so creative and all that realness and creativity and how he is not scared to go beyond the limits of your average everyday storytelling is just... wow. The movie is an experience.

The Truman Show

In a world with as much technology as today, with surveillance and everything being planned out up unto the smallest detail... how much of your life still belongs to you? Do you really have absolute freedom of choice, or only the freedom that other people decide you have? Both figuratively and literally, this movie has a lot of many no matter in which decade you watch it.

Thank you for sticking with me if you made it to the bottom of this list. These are my personal absolute favourite movies, movies that helped me find myself more than most other things and that continue to inspire me everyday.
Describing how something makes you feel is hard, especially when it is important to you, but I hope I managed to somehow make my emotions clear to you and I really hope that you are going to give these movies a chance.
