Jean-Luc Godard was as right as one could ever possibly be when he said, "Cinema is the most beautiful fraud in the world.".

Cinema became my escape at a very young age and has ever since been a passion.

Watching movies can be an art itself and so, here are some of my picks for movies that will leave your mind blown, take away your breath, make you see the world differently, change your life.

So here are seven of those movies. My list is in no particular order. I hope you enjoy it!

Pulp Fiction

This movie is just The Movie! I fell in love and I was never able to move on from it. Pulp Fiction is a masterpiece starting with its characters and storyline and ending with the framework and directing. If you haven't seen it yet, you must.

They call it a Royale with cheese.

The Grand Budapest Hotel

Talk about colour and unforgettable images! This movie leaves you in a state of absolute awe for its magnificent pictures. If you pause the movie at any second I can promise you that you will, no matter what, be left with an image worthy of being hung up on your wall. The movie is also filled with incredible actors and a quirky sense of humour. You simply have to love everything.

The beginning of the end of the end of the beginning has begun.

Mulholland Drive

My first thought after watching the movie for the first time was what the hell did I just watch? And this wasn't the good type of what the hell, it was the type that made me call the friend who had recommended it and demand an explanation! But after watching some of the explanations and coming to terms that I would have to watch 2 hours and 26 minutes of pure madness all over again I started to see the appeal of the movie. And after getting over the craziness that is the storyline of the movie, I was able to appreciate all the directing, the lighting work, the soundtrack and the powerful acting. This is one of those movies that you will either love or simply hate, nevertheless you have to give it a shot.

It's strange calling yourself.

Shutter Island

I love a good old DiCaprio movie just as much as the next girl. And although I was very indecisive between putting this one or The Wolf of Wall Street in the list, the fact that Shutter Island left me thinking about it for days and days was a sign that it belonged on this list. I liked the movie from the beginning, it had a solid cast, a compelling plot and great directing, but what totally sold the movie and made me crazy about it was the big plot twist! I mean, it caught me by surprise and made me want to watch it a second time right away. If you are a big plot twist junkie just like me, you need to watch this movie. Period.

Which would be worse - to live as a monster, or to die as a good man?

From one great DiCaprio movie to another, Inception is the type of movie you have to watch with full attention as you can get lost very quickly, but the outcome of an astonishing argument, terrific directing and unbelievable performances leaves you flabbergasted. And the ending, oh, the ending it is simply infuriating and, for that same reason, cruelly genius.

Dreams feel real while we're in them. It's only when we wake up that we realize something was actually strange.

This is the keeps-you-up-all-night-crying-your-eyes-out type of film. Mentally preparation needed for this movie as it contains major gross and explicit parts, as well as heart-shattering moments. Young Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman and another special actor (do not want to spoil it if you haven't seen it yet) deliver compelling performances bringing justice to another brilliant David Fincher movie.

What's in the box?

Hacksaw Ridge

My last movie is one of my favourites, if not the favourite. Hacksaw Ridge is a moving story of pure faith and strength that counts with an incredible Andrew Garfield in the lead role. The way the character is portraited leaves you inspired and gives you life lessons without it feeling forced or cheesy. The fight scenes are mindblowing to watch and the whole movie is an experience you won't forget anytime soon.

Help me get one more.
— Desmond Doss
