Mum, my siblings and I would catch the Worthleys bus (it was yellow with timber window frames, roll up blinds and a luggage rack running the full length of the roof. It had a classic 1920's style radiator with a chromed Indian head as a cap) It had 3 gears and no synchromesh (which meant the gears made a grinding noise as the driver changed them. We would laugh and ask the driver questions about the bus. ( we thought it was from the 1920's but I remember him saying it was from the 1930's) When the bus got to a hill it would hardly move.We would travel for several miles on the bus until the last stop by the beach. Laughing all the way. (image above is a similar vehicle from that era)
