Hi there everyone.

Happiness is something everyone experiences, hopefully everyday. But it's not something that can be taken for granted.

I've therefore been thinking about starting this "how to be happy" article series because I'm a pretty happy person, but it's not something that has been given to me, it's something I choose.

Disclaimer, I am not an expert, these are just my experiences and things I do to help me be happier.

Choose happiness.

Being happy is not a gift, it's a way of life. A mindset. It's something you choose.

Can I just decide to be happy, and then I'll be happy for the rest of my days?

Well not really, it's not that simple, you can't just decide to be happy and then that's it. It's something you must work on every minute of every day, but the more you do it, the easier it gets.

It's like learning any other new task, difficult in the beginning but the more you do it, the easier it gets.

Happines is a choice, not a result. Nothing will make you happy until you choose to be happy. No person will make you happy unless you decide to be happy. Your happiness will not come to you. It can only come from you.

How to choose happiness.

What I do is I focus on the things that make me happy, and I kind of ignore all the bad stuff. I still acknowledge the things that make me sad or angry and so on. But I don't let it control me.

I tell myself "okay this happened, now move on". To dwell on the past won't get you anywhere, it won't make your life happier. It's just going to take up all your thoughts and send out the wrong energies and then that's what you're going to get back. That's all you're going to see.

Instead focus on the things that make you happy and let those thoughts control your mind and your happiness will manifest.

If you don't know what makes you happy try to see the little things, and try to love the ordinary things in life. Like the smell of a flower,

or the sound of rain.

I will go into more depth on this subject in another article. So stay tuned!

How to practise the art of happiness.

Now that I've talked about what I try to do to remain happy I'm going to tell you how I do it.

It's easy to tell someone to just focus on happiness, but it's not that simple in real life.Things happen and it takes up our thoughts and pushes the happiness away. It's normal. And sometimes it might be good to let those feelings out. And then when you're ready you can snap back.

One way to be more happy is to be grateful. If you just strive to be happy, and don't take a moment to recall all the things that you already have, and that already makes you happy, you will never reach that goal. Let it be a journey instead, not a destination.

Gratefulness makes us aware of what we have, and it makes us appreciate the life we have. It might be difficult at first, but start with the small things. Like the smile you got from a stranger, or the feel of sunlight on your face. It doesn't have to be something big, just something real, something that made you feel good.

When you start acknowledging the things that you're grateful for you will start seeing them more often, and you will start noticing more and more things that make you grateful and happy. And that's how happiness starts. It begins when you take time to see it, when you choose to see it.

Gratefulness is like a spark, once you've lit it it's going to spread into a wildfire.

Practice acknowledging the things that make you feel gratefull and you will start seeing more and more and that will eventually turn into happiness.
