October and Halloween are one of my most favorite times of the year, and my favorite part of the season is watching Halloween movies! So I figured that I should share some of my favorite spooky movies to watch during Autumn.

Instead of just compiling a long list of all the best Halloween-oriented movies, I've narrowed the list down to 31 movies to watch for each day of October. These movies aren't all movies that will give you nightmares, some of them are just cute, spooky cartoons and some are just comedic horror. Feel free to watch these in any order you would like, but do challenge yourself to watch at least a few of these movies during October to get you in the spooky spirit. Enjoy the list and stay scary!

1. Nightmare on Elm Street (1984, dir. Wes Craven)

Teenagers in a small town are dropping like flies, apparently in the grip of mass hysteria causing their suicides. A cop's daughter, Nancy Thompson, traces the cause to a predator by the name of Fred Krueger, who was burned alive many years before. Krueger is now appearing in the nightmares of his killers' children and claiming their lives for revenge. Nancy and her boyfriend, Glen, must devise a plan to lure the monster out of the nightmare realm and into the real world.

2. Zombieland (2009, dir. Ruben Fleischer)

Columbus has made a habit of running from what scares him. Tallahassee doesn't have fears. If he did, he'd kick their ever-living ass. In a world overrun by zombies, these two are perfectly evolved survivors. But now, they're about to stare down the most terrifying prospect of all: each other.

3. The Shining (1980, dir. Stanley Kubrick)

Jack Torrance accepts a caretaker job at the Overlook Hotel, where he, along with his wife Wendy and their son Danny, must live isolated from the rest of the world for the winter. But they aren't prepared for the madness that lurks within.

4. Coraline (2009, dir. Henry Selick)

When Coraline moves to an old house, she feels bored and neglected by her parents, She finds a hidden door with a bricked up passage. During the night, she crosses the passage and finds a parallel world where everybody has buttons for eyes, with caring parents and all her dreams coming true. When the Other Mother invites Coraline to stay in her world forever, the girl refuses and finds that the alternate reality where she is trapped is only a trick to lure her.

5. The Witch (2015, dir. Robert Eggers)

New England in the 1630s: William and Katherine lead a devout Christian life with five children, homesteading on the edge of an impassable wilderness. When their newborn son vanishes and crops fail, the family turns on one another. Beyond their worst fears, a supernatural evil lurks in the nearby wood.

6. Insidious (2010, dir. James Wan)

7. Hocus Pocus (1993, dir. Kenny Ortega)

After 300 years of slumber, three sister witches are accidentally resurrected in Salem on Halloween night, and it is up to three kids and their newfound feline friend to put an end to the witches' reign of terror once and for all.

8. Beetlejuice (1998, dir. Tim Burton)

Thanks to an untimely demise via drowning, a young couple end up as poltergeists in their New England farmhouse, where they fail to meet the challenge of scaring away the insufferable new owners, who want to make drastic changes. In desperation, the undead newlyweds turn to an expert frightmeister, but he's got a diabolical agenda of his own. us

9. It (2017, dir. Andy Muschietti)

In a small town in Maine, seven children known as The Losers Club come face to face with life problems, bullies and a monster that takes the shape of a clown called Pennywise.

10. Corpse Bride (2005, dir. Tim Burton + Mike Johnson)

11. The Addams Family (1991, dir. Barry Sonnenfeld)

Uncle Fester has been missing for 25 years. An evil doctor finds out and introduces a fake Fester in an attempt to get the Addams Family's money. The youngest daughter has some doubts about the new uncle Fester, but the fake uncle adapts very well to the strange family. Can the doctor carry out her evil plans and take over the Addams Family's fortune?

12. The Conjuring (2013, dir. James Wan)

13. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993, dir. Henry Selick)

Tired of scaring humans on every October 31 with the same old bag of tricks, Jack Skellington, the spindly king of Halloween Town, kidnaps Santa Claus and plans to deliver shrunken heads and other ghoulish gifts to children on Christmas morning. 14. The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975, dir. Jim Sharman)

17. The Exorcist (1973, dir. William Friedkin)

21. Sleepy Hollow (1999, dir. Tim Burton)

New York detective Ichabod Crane is sent to Sleepy Hollow to investigate a series of mysterious deaths in which the victims are found beheaded. But the locals believe the culprit to be none other than the legendary Headless Horseman.

Eventually, Norman decides to cooperate, but things don't go according to plan.

26. The Lost Boys (1987, dir. Joel Schumacher)

A couple of teenage friends take it upon themselves to hunt down the vampires that they suspect of a few mysterious murders and restore peace and calm to their town.
