The history of the world is vast and fascinating but the stories we hear and lessons we learn focus on the contributions and actions of men. However there are many incredible women who deserve some credit, here are five of my favourites.

1) Frida Kahlo

Frida Kahlo de Rivera was a Mexican painter, who mostly painted self-portraits. Inspired by Mexican popular culture, she employed a naïve folk art style to explore questions of identity, postcolonialism, gender, class, and race in Mexican society.Quote: "I paint self-portraits because I am so often alone, because I am the person I know best."

Malala Yousafzai is a Pakistani activist for female education and the youngest-ever Nobel Prize laureate.My favourite quote "I am stronger than fear"

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is a British actress, model, and activist. Born in Paris and brought up in Oxfordshire, Watson attended the Dragon School and trained as an actress at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts.Quote: "Both men and women should feel free to be sensitive. 4) Opra Winfery

Oprah Winfrey is an American media proprietor, talk show host, actress, producer, and philanthropist. Quote: "Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher."

5) Michelle Obama

Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama is an American lawyer and writer who was First Lady of the United States from 2009 to 2017. She is married to the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, and is the first African-American First Lady. Quote: "There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish"
