In life we face good times and hard times. For those of you that have been following me for awhile, you know that my life has been filled with a lot more hard times than I would’ve liked it too. But I’ve also had some of the most beautiful times as well.

I often get asked how I stay so positive through the difficult times in my life. And the simple answer is a positive mindset. Let me just tell you, sometimes it is hard to keep positive when it feels like everything in my life is falling apart. But there are some things I will be sharing with you that I make it a point to do to stay positive even through the worst of times.

1. Let it out

If you’re going through a hard time it is okay to cry. It is normal to have feelings and it is healthy to express them. Find someone you can talk to and confide in about whatever you’re going through. I know when I’m going through a hard time I always feel SO much better when I vent to someone about what I’m going through. But make sure the person you pick to vent to is someone that will lift you up and encourage you through this hard time. Another rule if you’re going to cry about something, try to only cry about it once and then allow yourself to move on.

2. A positive mindset

Don’t question why you’re going through what you’re going through. Sometimes in life things happen that we wish never would, but oftentimes these things are out of our control. When something bad happens in our lives it is so easy to sit there and think negative thoughts like: “why me” or “this isn’t fair”. Overthinking and over-analyzing situations will only make it harder to move past whatever you’re going through.

3. Reframe your thoughts

This one kind of ties into my last tip. But if you get a negative thought or go through any self doubt, do not give into this way of thinking. This will only make the situation worst. Instead occupy your mind with things that will keep you busy and thinking about positive things. For example, whenever I feel any self doubt I look at things that will motivate me such as inspirational quotes. I have a collection created here full of my favorite motivational quotes if you’d like to check them out.

4. Use your time and energy wisely

Time is such a valuable thing. I know this tip may sound harsh, but this is my way of thinking. Like I said previously, allow yourself to get your frustration out briefly if needed and move on. Truly think about it, what are you gaining by being upset about the situation you are going through.. Dragging on upset feelings just makes you more upset. Instead of wasting time being upset think about all the things you could spend that time doing..

5. Think about solutions not problems

This tip is extending from my last one. If you are going through things that are not ideal, think about how you can improve the situation rather than dwelling on it.

6. Take time for yourself

I think most of us forget with our busy lives that it is so crucial to make time for ourselves. Make it a point to set aside time to do something you enjoy at least once a week. This can be something as simple as spending an afternoon watching your favorite show, going to the gym, or getting your nails done. Do something that you enjoy and makes you feel good. Taking care of your mental health is so incredibly important. I know I find that when I am making it a point to take time for myself I tend to be so much less stressed and much more positive versus when I don’t make “me time”.

7. “This too shall pass”

This last one is something I ALWAYS tell myself when I am going through tough times. Just know that the difficulties you are facing are only temporary. Even if what you’re going through is what you consider to be the worst of the worst, just remember.. the great thing about hitting rock bottom is that you can only go up from there!

I feel like I could ramble on and on with advice for you guys, but I’ll go ahead and end my novel there ;) I hope you guys enjoyed these tips or even found some of them helpful!
