first thing first... SUNSCREEN

why should you use sunscreen? well first ...

What Are UV Rays?

UV rays is the sunlight that reaches us, it is made up of two types of harmful rays: long wave ultraviolet A (UVA) and short wave ultraviolet B (UVB). UVA rays penetrate deep into the dermis, the skin’s thickest layer and UVB rays will usually burn the superficial layers of your skin.

UVA rays effects:

  • wrinkles
  • skin cancer
  • hyper-pigmentation
  • permanent damage
  • loss of collagen (etc.)

protection based upon the amount of SPF in your sunscreen:

SPF 15:

  • blocks 93% of UVB Radiation

SPF 30:

  • blocks 97% of UVB Radiation

SPF 50:

  • blocks 98% of UVB Radiation

***just because the SPF number is higher than 50 does not mean it gives you more protection

***please use sunscreen. no matter how dark your skin tone is, the UVA rays WILL. DAMAGE. YOUR. SKIN!

ACNE

funny and tiffany pollard image

FIRST OF ALL, I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT ACNE CAN CHOKE. WHO GAVE THESE BITCHES THE RIGHT TO BE PON MI BODY BITCH CAUSE I SURE DIDN'T.

ANYWAYS...

Know WHAT TYPE of acne you have.

comedonal acne

  • this is basically clogged pores. they are caused by oils, bacteria, and sebum being trapped underneath the skin. they are not painful but annoying. they can be easily treated by exfoliating. Salicylic acid also can help reduce comedonal blemishes.

inflammatory acne

  • sebum that is clogging your pores that cause irritation. treat it by using a gentle skin care regimen with ingredients such as Benzoyl peroxide (low concentration if you do not know how to use) it which can unclog skin pores. It also helps stop bacteria from growing. but if you have Moderate to severe inflammatory acne than you require the medical advice of a dermatologist since it's much more difficult to treat.

Cystic acne

  • this is much more of a severe form of acne. its major inflammatory and deep in the skin and it also hurts. this type of acne takes longer to clear and usually leaves a scar. requires the advice of a dermatologist.

TYPES OF SKIN

Oily skin

  • If you have enlarged pores, blackheads and/or acne then you have oily skin.

Dry skin

  • If flakes & dry patches, a rough complexion & accentuated lines are bumming you out then you have dry skin.

Combination skin

  • If there's oil on your t-zone and dry or normal skin on your cheeks and jaw line then you have combination skin.

Normal skin

  • If your skin is generally even, you have tiny pores and little to no shine then you have normal skin.

What to look for in skin care products best for your skin type when you cleanse, exfoliate and tone the skin and the "proper" way to layer and apply skin care:

1. Remove makeup and cleanse skin.

DOUBLE CLEANSING and WHAT TYPE OF CLEANSER FOR YOU SKIN TYPE?

  • First step cleanser: it needs to help draw out all that excess oil and sebum from the surface of your skin.

The second cleanser actually cleanses your skin, as for the first cleanser that helps take all that makeup, sebum and bacteria that on the surface of your skin.

Oily skin

gel cleansers. “a gel cleanser is beneficial for eliminating surface oil and acne-causing bacteria as well as giving the skin a deeper clean.” -esthetician Renée Rouleau.

normal to combination skin

“milk cleansers work well for dissolving and digesting off emollients found in makeup".

dry skin

"oil cleansers are for the dry or sensitive skin. Be aware that this hydrating formula can be a bit tough to get off. Even if it’s been washed off thoroughly, the oil can have the tendency to linger on the surface of the skin, creating a barrier and inhibiting serums and moisturizers from penetrating through. Hence why some opt for a double cleansing, using a gel or cleansing milk after the oil to remove every last bit of residue."

2. EXFOLIATE: Never use both scrub and chemical exfoliator on the same day.

OILY SKIN:

  • scrub 2x a week or chemical exfoliator 3x a week

-Oily and severe all over acne- avoid heavy oils or pore-clogging ingredients.
include salicylic, lactic, or glycolic acid.

NORMAL SKIN:

  • scrub 2x a week or chemical exfoliator 3x a week

- Sensitive skin - Chemical—lactic acid is best for sensitive skin.
-Anti age- lactic and glycolic is good

DRY SKIN:

  • dry, sun damage and anti-age - Both chemical (lactic, malic, and glycolic are all good), or a facial scrub can be used .
  • dry and sensitive skin- A chemical exfoliator

3. TONER for all skin types:

  • Aloe Vera
  • Rose
  • Chamomile extract
  • Cucumber extract
  • Hyaluronic Acid

-- spot treatment: if you are doing a spot treatment do it here

4. ESSENCE optional:

  • this is a Korean thing, you don't have to use one if you don't have one or want one.

5. THE TARGETING PHASE:

  • SERUMS, AMPOULES, ETC.
  • in this step, you target your skin issues.

--the best time to put on a sheet mask is after step 5. it is up to you to skip the rest of the steps after this. don't rinse or leave the sheet mask until it gets dry.

6. EYE CREAM

-- if you put on a sleeping mask do it after step six. skip step seven.

7. EMULSION OR FACE CREAM

*** your nighttime routine should be different than your morning routine.

NOW FOR SOME RANDOM TIPS:

aesthetic, art, and clothes image

- the ingredients that are listed first on the ingredient list on the back of the product have more of those ingredients in the product itself than those ingredients listed all the way last. so always check if the ingredient that is actually deemed to help your skin concern is one of the first ingredients listed.

- Do a patch test on the side of the neck when using a new product.

- DO NOT USE FEMININE WASH! you might as well use your facial cleanser honestly. so please do not invest in none of that shit, you just need water to clean your vagina.

- your skin can be getting irritated from the fragrance of your detergent and you might not know it.

- Dressing in neutrals like nudes, whites, blacks, and grays generally make your outfit choices easier to mix and match.

- You're not using a skincare routine that suits YOUR skin. instead of having your own routine you're basing on someones else routine (although its not a bad thing to get inspiration and recommendations from someone who has the same skin type as you) you need to keep in mind that their skin can have different needs and you could be making more problem for your OWN skin. so invest in a skincare routine made for you.

- Castor oil, olive oil, vitamin e and coconut oil make your eyebrows and lashes grow thick and long.

- drink water, stay hydrated( keep in mind that other organs use the water first before it gets to your skin so don't rely on water for your skin issues)

- approach the eye area with extra care. when looking for an eye cream check the ingredients that will not irritate your under eye and also be careful to not get it in your eyes when putting it on. also remember that the under eye is very thin and very sensitive.

- alway use warm water first whether it's for washing your hair or your face or body to open your pores and your hair follicles then use cold water to close them when done.

- sleeping on your side can create unnecessary wrinkles to form and fine lines so try not to sleep on your sides (or you can invest on a silk pillow case)

- Be sure to find your actual skin type, and look up ingredients in products that help according to your skin type.

- theirs this idea that if its natural its better for your skin but in fact some of the best products out there are synthetics ingredients that mimic what is already on our own skin and your skin can recognized them as one of your skin ingredients (there a lot of natural ingredients that can horribly irritate and damage the skin and skin barrier in the long term, plus some natural ingredient are not and where not formulated to be on your skin either) (also be mindful that some essential oils can actually trigger irritation as well)

- Exercise regularly, and change up your workouts every couple of months to keep your body challenged.

- apply conditioner first then use your shampoo. conditioner tends to weigh the hair down.

- leaving a clay mask on longer does not mean it's better for your skin(if it cracks or it dry's, its been too long. to know when to take it off just see if it transfer on your skin when you touch, if it doesn't then its finished)

- Keep your cuticles moisturized for stronger, healthier nails (you can use lip balm to moisturize your cuticles) (especially when wearing acrylics)

- don’t use coconut oil to moisturize your face it has been shown that it can block your pores which can cause acne.

- look for cell communicating ingredients in skincare that help your skin issues

- water based skincare product are put on before oil skincare products

- keep something on beside your bed that reminds you to take your make up off before you go to bed

- the difference between hydration and moisturisation: hydration is increasing the water content of the skin. moisturisation is sealing skin's surface to prevent moisture loss.

- a cup of apple cider vinegar in your bath will restore your vagina's pH.

- if your into guys, carry condoms in your purse at all times, don’t expect them to provide them all the time because the truth is they don’t always do and you don’t wanna be in that position where your risking your sexual health.

- spray your pressure points (behind ears, insides of elbows and knees, inner thighs, décolletage, and wrists)

- after you use a sheet mask instead of leaving the excess to go to waste use it on the rest of your body.

- exfoliate your lips, Make your own sugar scrub but don't over exfoliate and don't exfoliate them all the time.

- if you're breaking out around your hairline or forehead it could possibly be from carelessly using your hair products and accidentally getting them on your skin.

- theirs this saying that after you wash your face you have 3 seconds to use toner to "really" balance your pH so have it ready (plus it is a good trick to not forget to use toner)

- neck creams are gimmicky so don't spend your money on them

- use coffee as a scrub.(only if you don't have sensitive skin)

- always leave spare of clean panties, leggings and a top in your car so if u stay around someone’s place you can sleep and chill comfortably and keep sexy underwear with you in your bag just in case.

- COCONUT OIL, SHEA BUTTER, AND CASTOR OIL WILL TURN YOUR HAIR INTO SILK, leave on overnight.

- Take selfies and nudes at all times to boost that body confidence. Snapchat has a password protected “My Eyes Only” option in Memories that you can hide these in if you’re shy.

gif and rihanna image

- always wear SPF on your face and under ur makeup, even when it’s cloudy.

- use fresh aloe Vera. it helps deep and inflamed acne since it reduces inflammation a lot.

- use a cotton t-shirt for drying your hair.

- excessively scrubbing your skin does not mean you're cleaning it better.

- makeup wipes are not enough to take off all your makeup

- be a confident hoe. Smile more and sit with good posture and you will appear more confident and approachable. never look down, alway keep your head up.
