“It is in the span of your hips
And the curl of your lips
Its the fire in your eyes
And the passion in your soul
Its the flash of your teeth
And the joy in your feet.”
Through the perspective of a person living in the 21st century, the definition of beauty is quite distorted. Society has various ideas of beauty in their minds. Long hair, big dark eyes, long legs and flawless skin are just some of the characteristics of a ‘beautiful’ person. However, the recent notion of using so many products and also spending ridiculous sums of money undergoing surgeries is astounding.
The artist Colbie says in her song,
“Get your make-up on
Get your nails done
Comb your hair
Run the extra mile
Keep it slim, so they like you. ”
Why do people let Society get to them? Why do people let their insecurities get to them? Beauty is not such a superficial term. The first step to beauty is believing that you’re beautiful, that’s when you will start feeling like it. It’s what on the inside that’s important. Your inner strength, your confidence, and the way you carry yourself. No matter how much money you spend on clothes and cosmetics, if you don’t carry yourself with grace, its all in vain.
Its not about that sleek, ironed hair, its about those natural messy waves. Its not about that red lipstick, its about the dazzling smile underneath. Its not about that Prada outfit that adores your body, its about how well you carry even a simple Tshirt. Its about believing in yourself and that you’re beautiful.
But does that mean that the women who use these products are wrong and should stop doing that? NO. These products are made to enhance our features, to highlight them and draw attention to them. That doesn’t mean it CHANGES our features in any way whatsoever. You tell me. When you’re at home alone by yourself, do you like ‘you’? It all comes down to what you think of yourself at the end of the day. Another thing is that women need to stop obsessing about their weights and starving themselves. If you want to eat extra junk, then work out, be fit, instead of starving yourself like that. Anorexia is a disease, NOT a fashion statement.
You’re skinny? You’re malnourished. You’re curvy? Oh you’re fat and obessed. Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. Society is going to judge you any which ways. You might as well do what you want. People will always talk. That’s what they do. But don’t let that bring you down because I think you’re stronger than that. Its your inner strength that radiates your personality. So learn to love yourself just the way you are.
Be proud of yourself. Self appreciation, satisfaction and confidence are a must. Love yourself and everything else will fall into place. You are Beautiful, always remember that!
