I have watched a lot of films in my time and today i wanted to share with you some of my favourite films from the genre Chick Flicks. This is the genre of films i watch more as i enjoy them the most. I will definitely do a part two in the future as i have loads more that i would like to mention.
Clueless
Cher, a high school student in Beverly Hills, must survive the ups and downs of adolescent life. Her external demeanor at first seems superficial, but rather it hides her wit, charm, and intelligence which help her to deal with relationships, friends, family, school, and the all-important teenage social life.
My opinion:
I consider this film a classic, its funny, and also a little sad, everything you could possibly want in a chick flick. I will say i wasn't completely happy with the ending but then again i never really like endings.
Mean Girls
Cady Heron is a hit with The Plastics, the A-list girl clique at her new school, until she makes the mistake of falling for Aaron Samuels, the ex-boyfriend of alpha Plastic Regina George.
My Opinion:
Mean Girls is a classic. There is no denying that. This film is funny and also relatable. I think at every school there is a group of mean girls, i know the film exaggerates a bit but we all know people who are like the plastics.
Legally Blonde
Elle Woods, a fashionable sorority queen is dumped by her boyfriend. She decides to follow him to law school, while she is there she figures out that there is more to her than just looks.
My Opinion:
I love this film and watch it all the time, i know some people may find it over hyped but i think this film is amazing. It shows that women surprise you and can do things if they put their minds to it. This film is definitely about empowerment. If you have not seen it i recommend you to watch it ASAP.
13 Going On 30
At Jenna's thirteenth Birthday she wishes she was 30 and thanks to some wishing dust, that comes true. Unfortunately, Jenna realizes all she actually wanted in life was not a dream job, an amazing boyfriend, a fashionable wardrobe and great friends, the only thing she wants is her childhood best friend, Matt. When she finds him, hes grown up and moved on from Jenna.
My Opinion:
This is one of my ultimate favourite films. It will always have a place in my heart as it was one of the first Rom-Com/ Chick Flicks i ever watched. This is a film i cry at quite a bit. I think all teenagers dream and wish to grow up but this film shows you that growing up and being an adult is not as fun as it seems and that you will miss being a child.
About Time
At the age of 21, Tim discovers he can travel in time and change what happens and has happened in his own life. His decision to make his world a better place by getting a girlfriend turns out not to be as easy as you might think.
My Opinion:
This film is so good, but this is a film that will make you shed a couple of tears (well i did anyway!). I think the storyline is so lovely. I would also class this film as a comedy as it will have you crying with laughter at some points.
Steel Magnolias
A young beautician, newly arrived in a small Louisiana town, finds work at the local salon, where a small group of women share a close bond of friendship and welcome her into the fold.
My Opinion:
This is my mums favourite film, it is also where she got my name from, as Shelby is the name of Julia Roberts character. This film is a heart wrencher, and will most likely make you cry (maybe i should change the title of this to films that will make you cry!). I was very adamant to watch this film as it is quite old, in my opinion any way, but don't let that stop you.
Angus, Thongs And Perfect Snogging
Georgia is a 14 year old girl who is learning about life a a teenager.
When new boys Robbie and Tom move to town Georgia and her best friends become obsessed. Alongside dealing with her new crush she also has problems at home and school, including the schools mean girl, Lindsey who already has Robbie's heart.
My Opinion:
This film is so funny! Honestly sometimes this film makes me cringe at how awkward the main character, Georgia is, but thats one of the main reasons why i love this film. Another reason is because i can relate to Georgia's character, how difficult it is to like someone and them maybe not have the same feelings, or to have to deal with stuck up girls like Lindsey.
10 Things I Hate About You
Bianca really wants to date the most popular guy in school, Joye Donner, but her dad has a rule. She can only date if her sister does. Thats quite difficult seeing as her sister, Katrina hates love. Bianca sets herself a challenge and along with the help of Cameron (a guy who is head over heels for her) they try to get Kat a date.
My Opinion:
This film is also a classic that i think everyone should watch, it is actually a retelling of a Shakespeare play, but i cant remember which one. Again it has funny moments and sad moments. Some people may say this film is predictable but i don't care, sometimes like predictable films.
She's The Man
When her brother decides to ditch for a couple weeks, Viola heads over to his elite boarding school, disguised as him, and proceeds to fall for one of his soccer teammates, and soon learns she's not the only one with romantic troubles.
My Opinion:
I watched this for the first time with two of my friends and i loved it, one of the reasons i love it is because of Channing Tatum. I love Violas Character. I think the storyline of the movie is so strange but captivating. It makes you think who would actually do that sort of thing in real life. This is also a retelling of a Shakespeare play.
A Cinderella Story
Samantha had a rough childhood with her father dying and a new stepmother with two awful stepdaughters. But on the bright side, Sam has an awesome best friend named Carter and an email relationship with a guy named Nomad. Soon she will find out who Nomad really is, but will he recognize her and fall in love?
My Opinion:
This film is so good, obviously it is based off of Cinderella, but don't let that put you of. Yes it may be a cheesy teen movie but it is a film that i love and so many others do as well. But can i just say, how did Austin Ames not recognize her, it was so obvious who it was! I haven't watched any of the other Cinderella Story movies.
