The sound of winter
Is one that I will always miss
Yet never yearn for
The sound of winter
Is calm and loud
Quiet and wild

The sound of winter
Is the crack of ice
Under snow boots long forgotten
In the sheds hidden under millenia’s
Of soul; of soil

The sound of winter
Is a gentle cry
Alone with pine and peppermint
The sound of winter
Is the jingle of bells
And the high notes in carols;
Is the ripping of wrapping paper

And of course
The sound of winter
Is the SMACK! of coal
As it hits the young boy in the eye

But he will be fine
Because next will be the sound of coal on paper
On canvas
That is the sound of the winter artist
