Although I am in my early 20s, I still believe in fairy tales. My passion for history made me discover many outstanding historical figures, but by far the most fascinating is Queen Marie of Romania. Marie Alexandra Victoria was born on 29 october 1875. She was Princess of Edinburgh and Saxe-Cobourg-Gotha and Duchess of Saxony and after her marriage with Crown Prince Ferdinand of Romania, she became Crown Princess Marie of Romania and of course later, in 1914 she finally became Queen Consort of Romania.

In her youth she was known to be one of the most beautiful and richest princesses in Europe. She was described as a "lovely young woman" with "sparkling blue eyes and silky fair hair". She was very popular among the romanian people, especially due to her work as a nurse during World War One. Marie is also known as "Mama Răniților" ("Mother of the Wounded"), "Soldier Queen", "Mamma Regina" or simply as "Regina Maria".She also enjoyed painting and writing, her most acclaimed book was her autobiography, "The Story of My Life". Marie was unconventional: medieval and royal, monarchist and democrat, romantic and modern; Hanna Pakula called her in the homonym biography, "The Last Romantic, The First Modern Woman".

“Oh, life is a glorious cycle of song,
a medley of extemporanea,
And love is a thing that can never go wrong,
and I am Marie of Romania.”
