In light of recent events, I have been thinking about what Thomas Jefferson wrote in The Declaration of Independence: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." I have been convinced of that ever since I have read the Declaration. People, let us truly be united. Let us find non-violent ways to resolve conflicts. Let us be grateful for who we are, what we have, and where we are. People, I am more grateful than ever before that communities are blessed with police officers, fire fighters, letter carries, doctors, nurses, attorneys, real estate agents, school bus drivers, regional transit authority employees, civil engineers who build bridges, bridge repair crews, people at work re-paving our roads and fixing our potholes in the process . . . the list goes on and on. Some of my Facebook friends fit some of the above job titles. We need brother/sister to help brother/sister. May we be people of clear consciences, and may we act like those with clear consciences.
