Autumn is my favourite time of the year, and from the 22nd of September, it's officially here. For me, autumn is all about comfy nights in and spending time chilling out after a busy summer.

I've put together a few tips for creating that perfect autumn night in.

Get comfy

The most important thing to me when I’m planning a night in is to make sure I have a bunch of items that will keep me cosy and warm. Hot water bottles, super soft blankets and woolly jumpers are something that won’t be far from reach during the autumn and winter months for me.

Make yourself some hot snacks

For me, when I think of Autumn I think, drinking hot chocolate with a bowl of popcorn in front of a great movie. The great thing about popcorn is that if you make it yourself and add your own toppings it is low in calories so you don’t have to feel guilty about eating it afterwards!

Find a movie watching partner

Nothing beats the cold like being snuggled up on the sofa with someone. Whether it’s your boyfriend, girlfriend, best friend or even your pet, a cold night can be made so much warmer with someone there with you. If you have different movie tastes, think about making it a mini-marathon. If one loves horror and the other is more keen on romance, watch the horror first and romance afterwards to stop yourselves being so scared.

Don’t have a movie partner?

No problem! I have had so many great movie nights by myself, or binge watching of TV shows. (I’m trying to pretend I didn’t binge watch the first season of Game of Thrones in 2 days) Tuck yourself up to watch some great movies, make a list so you won’t get sidetracked by the weird and wonderful documentaries if that helps. Downtime just by yourself is a perfectly acceptable way to watch a movie.

Find your comfiest set of pyjamas and put them on.

Get your friend or partner to bring over theirs as well to get a comfy mood going.

Make a cute atmosphere!

Cuddling up doesn’t have to mean you use only the light of the TV to light the room, you don’t want to be tripping over your beloved pet. Add some fairy lights in the background or out of your line of sight and it will feel warm and comfortable.

You don't just have to watch a movie

If you don't want to watch a movie, don't! If you want to sit and read your favourite book or bake a great recipe (Blackberry and Apple pie recipe here) then do that, a night in is literally whatever you make it, so make it yours.
